Transition - Obama's Day

It has been a relatively smooth and definitely peaceful transition of power in the United States. The new administration has been assisted by the Bush administration and today Barack Obama will become the 44th President of the United States at 12:00 PM.

The country awaits with high hopes and certainly high expectations for the changes Barack Obama has promised in both foreign policy and the economy. The current condition of the nation's economy and some animosity toward the wars along with such high expectations for Barack Obama leaves his administration only two extreme directions to go; highly successful or fail miserably to live up to the expectations. The country certainly hopes for the former and not the latter.

Regardless of party we are all proud to be American's and we want our country to succeed.

Here is Barack Obama's schedule for today.

8:25 a.m.: Obamas leave Blair House for prayer service at St. John's Episcopal Church

8:35 a.m.: Prayer service

9:45 a.m.: Church service ends; Obamas depart for the White House

10:05 a.m.: Obamas arrive at White House for coffee with the Bushes

11:00 a.m.: Motorcade departs for the Capitol

11:30 a.m.: Bushes and Obamas proceed to platform on the West Front; California Senator Dianne Feinstein will issue the call to order and deliver brief welcoming remarks, followed by an invocation from Dr. Rick Warren and a performance from Aretha Franklin (who also sang at Bill Clinton's first inauguration)

11:50 a.m.: Joe Biden is sworn in as vice president by Supreme Court Justice John Stevens

12 p.m.: Barack Obama is sworn in as president by Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts. Obama, with his hand on Abraham Lincoln's inaugural Bible, will recite the same oath as his predecessors: "I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the office of president of the United States and will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States." Musical performance from John Williams, Yo-Yo Ma, Itzhak Perlman, Gabriela Montero and Anthony McGill, followed by "Hail to the Chief" and a 21-gun salute

12:05 p.m.: Inaugural address, followed by a poem written and recited by Elizabeth Alexander and a benediction from Dr. Joseph Lowery. The national anthem will be performed by the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters

12:30 p.m.: Ceremony concludes

12:35 p.m.: Bush departs via helicopter; Cheney departs by limo

12:45 p.m.: Obama signs inauguration papers in the President's Room

1:00 p.m.: Obama attends congressional luncheon

2:15 p.m.: Obama and Biden review troops at Capitol

2:30 p.m.: President Obama leads the parade from the Capitol along Pennsylvania Avenue to the White House

3:15 p.m.: Arrival at the White House

3:45 p.m.: Obamas and Bidens proceed to the reviewing stand; inaugural parade continues until 6 p.m.

7:00 p.m.: The official inaugural balls begin with the Neighborhood Ball at the Washington Convention Center, with performers scheduled to include Beyoncé. Mary J. Blige, Mariah Carey, Faith Hill, Jay-Z, Alicia Keys, Shakira, Stevie Wonder and others. Nick Cannon will DJ.

And an America for all the people finally begins.

Rich, gray hair, blue eyed, white guys take a break, after 233 years you have earned it.

Marine ONE takes off with 'W'the EX, from the White House lawn as the throng of possibly TWO MILLION AMERICANS sing in unison.

Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye.
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye.
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye.
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye.
Na na na na, na na na na, hey hey-ey, goodbye

A picture perfect moment, I will never forget.

we shall see what they all have been waiting for, Power lets see how he handles it. Rap concerts and Biscuits for all.

Rap concerts and biscuits?

I'm not a racist, not I.

anon 1:44 --
thanks for the reminder that the inauguration of our first african-american president does not mean the end to racism in our country. what an abhorrent, repulsive thing to say.

to iv:
i know you don't really respond to missives that begin with "if you value your integrity as a blogger", but... if you value your integrity as a blogger, you might not want to let overtly racist statements into your comments.

Be Real Hermit,
It's their blog and we abide by their guidelines not yours. Obviously racists comments will be offensive to some but there are lots of comments on lots of blogs that are offensive to lots of people for lots of different reasons.
Freedom of Speeech I believe!
Maybe you need to move to Moscow.

It sounds like he's in Moscow now polishing up on his integrity.

The man isn't much on integrity either. It's all about phychobable and sophisticated blather that allows him to hide his true lack of standards. Most people who point at supposed racism harbor guilt feelings and only trying to present themselves in a socially positive way. He's likely one of the worst race baiters on the blog.

Anonymous 1:15: Yes, that was a real class act. If you think that was a great moment, that says a lot about you.

in washington it was a grand display
and for america, a very bright day
obama was sworn in
but the best was when
a helicopter took george bush away

The ultra-conservative and Bush Appointee Chief Justice John Roberts had a simple job to perform yesterday.

But, at a great moment in history when the first black was to be sworn in as President, Chief Justice Roberts blew it and screwed up the words.

Based on that, Fox News (puke) already questions the legitimacy of Mr. Obama's presidency. That alone should give the wing nuts a bit of hope and Rush a bit of material.

To hate coloreds is my right. PIV gives us this blog so real Americans can have a local voice. Not all us white guys have blue eyes. PIV is not the internet police. George Bush was a wonderful man. The only white sport anymore is NASCAR.

Bush a great man does not talk down. It is for real patriats. Husian talks jibe for others and libs. Ann Colter is right. I read it.

I predict the following will ring true in the not so distant future:

the libs all thought they’d been blessed
when rid of the prez they detest
what they forgot in their braying
is that time honored saying,
it’s he who laughs last that laughs best…

to my anonymous comrades 8:10, 8:34, and 9:18:
i quite agree that iv has every right to set the comments policy around here as s/he pleases. and in a perfect world, a comments policy wouldn't be necessary at all. but iv him/herself has said that comments here must pass a certain threshold of decorum; for example, no foul language or extreme personal attacks. i think it's a bit remarkable that racist effluent like anon 1:44's is ok, but presumably dropping a couple f-bombs is not. and i think it's downright chilling that the three of you have so happily condoned that effluent.

to rons:
you make a good point. but i think there's something else to add: i believe obama himself identifies as black or african-american. so if that's what he wants to be considered, then i think it's pretty reasonable for the press to do so.

Husian wants to be black. Coloreds mixing it up is worse. Not Christian. Drum brings to much already. This blog is freedom some die for.

I only wish I had continued to miss reading this one.
