Bad Decision-Don't Do It

The media is reporting the Republican Election Commissioner is supportive of a ban on the media inside polling sites. Sources say it was discussed and agreed by GOP and Democratic Commissioners that this is permissible by law, but it is simply a BAD IDEA!

The objective is to make government and elected officials more open, accountable, and the process more transparent.  Banning cameras may be within the Democratic and Republican Election Commissioner's rights and it maybe the letter of the law that allows them to do it, but use common sense.

Since when does (or do) the media (or medium) use common sense?

When they smear someone or make a huge gaffe, how timely is their retraction, or apology? BTW: apology is one word not taught in Journalism school.

If they have a mission or task and it involves infringing on your right to vote - which is a solemn task and no one needs to push a mic in your face demanding to know who you voted for or not ... that is NOT a free speech or freedom of the press issue, either - it's the tactics of a thug.

The media can go to a polling place and interview a candidate or candidate's wife, if they want to show the candidate voting... but it is not time for an interview of Joe Citizen.

Besides, the law says campaign stuff has be kept 50 feet or so away from a polling place so, what gives the biased media (esp. the biased media up here) a right that no one else has on Election Day?

I'm not a fan of the media, but I respect their right to gather and report “news.” Election Day jockeying for a sound byte is not news of the day.

They should respect voters’ rights and leave them alone on Election Day. There are other days to catch up with them – but that’s too hard. I guess it’s better to capture them in a closed arena like a voting booth?

I think it is a good idea. My wife was taped voting and it was shown on the news. She was very upset. Going to vote should be private. They can tape the mayor going in and out of the building if they want.

The day belongs to the people; not to the candidates or their coverage.

Its just the media whining. Screw them.

I agree with the decision. You are wrong on this one IV. Its the voters day!
