Tell Us What You Really Think

NY Times Tells It Like It Is
Whistling Past the Deficit

Unfortunately, the Democrats running the State Senate seem to think things are not as bad as the governor makes out, and have advanced a plan that is politically palatable but also ludicrous. They would drain rainy-day funds and any other untapped pool of savings to pay the bills until March of next year.

That’s like cleaning out your 401(k) to pay the rent.
It is time for the Legislature to face facts.

Only one solution. Run Patty! Run! It's time to tar and feather the big spenders in Albany. We're on the verge of a taxpayer revolt and Aubertine, Valesky, Foley, etc. are going to be the victims.

Nice try, IVY - but my friend, please tell the whole story - I know, I know, we can read your link to the NYT, and I did.

But the blame CANNOT be squarely put on the Sen. Dems - although they deserve their fair share of OUR whole government ...

I focused on this:

"Meanwhile, Republican senators who plan to stand on the sidelines and let the Democrats make unpopular choices should be challenged as do-nothings."

"Mr. Paterson told legislators at one point that he would “mortgage my political career” to steady the state’s finances. Legislators should realize that their political careers are on the line as well."

IN MY VIEW: The Guv is the only one trying to lead on our crisis and it is a crisis...

Now, we're even, right? LOL

Tar and Feather ... reminded me of this Abe Lincoln zinger:

As the man said after having been tarred, feathered, and ridden out of town on a rail:

"If it hadn't been for the honor of the thing, I'd rather have walked."

To the contrary Dan, the Senate Republicans have put out a plan. You are good at research and should be able to find it without too much hassle. The Governor has a plan also, the Democrats in the Senate and Assembly are mum on the issue.

Dannie, your party won control of the legislature. They have the obligation of leading, unless you have some other idea of what leadership is supposed to be about. You seem to think this is the case on the national level too. Not really any surprise, being the independent minded guy you are.

Your party told us they had answers. Now lets hear a couple. Or even half of one. Truth is, you only know how to tax, spend, and buy votes. The Elephants can compete with you, but they're not as good. You're the best, baby. Now enjoy it.

Jim Wright brought home his share of the bacon, yet his actions were well recieved by the area, could it be this was just the tip of the iceberg, that NYS was in worse shape than we are now??? Should "member items" be discontinued, and everything should be voted on???

Anonymous said...

Member items are a visible part of the problem. But there is so much money being wasted on government programs it would scare the hell out of a working person. Start by looking at the phone book, government pages. We are completely out of control. But each agency has its own advocacy group, and they know the numbers to call for the right politician. You, the taxpayer, have no chance whatsoever. Like your local school. It is best to be nice to them in hopes of getting your kid a job.

I guess that means the Dannie accepts the fact that his post was bs and he backs away from he previous assertions.

Fair enough.
Bingo and all that.

5:04 - there you go again.

I don't and have never advocated nor run on any platform of "tax and spend." Never...

I am fiscally conservative and that would probably surprise you...

But, I will spend to help people in need.

What's wrong with that? I think your side calls it "compassionate conservatism."

Sitting in office and not helping the people who either put you there or the ones back home you say you represent, but don't, is flat out wrong.

Why serve, then? Oh, I see, throw bombs and hope for the best results? Not in my way of thinking.

And, yes my friend I know what leadership is.

Dannie, you never met a program you didn't like. Yet you call yourself a fiscal conservative. Talk is cheap.

I see The Great One took 60k jobs off his estimates for "stimulus" credit. Ooops, guess he lied.
Care to offer a defense? You've always been a good water carrier.

Hey 3:08...Patty is already running...her petition drive was created, bought and paid for by none other than Senator Libious and the RSCC..

Well, I never thought I would say this but I think I would vote for Patterson if he were to be on the ballot in November. Of course that will never happen as the Dems think he is crazy for trying to cut our stupid spending and the Republicans still think people like DeDe is the answer. Get real people and just learn the difference between need and want. All we do is look to see if a politician has an R or D next to their name. Again, I never thought I would say this either but, a third party is not far away.

6:09 I don't disagree with you on your views. But if we do go with a third party, we will definitely elect Democrats. They are more likely to stick with their party than the Republicans. This was proven with the election of Owens. The Donkeys are more loyal party liners than the Elephants. A third party will cut into the Reps more, and make us even more of a one party state than we are already. Talk about a train wreck.

You may be wrong on that one.Owens had a huge backing from the seiu. That is the problem, it's grown to better than half the district are union employed or families of. The only way to beat the teachers, various public employees, law enforcement, auto workers, seaway workers, town, county, state employees well you get the picture. The only way to beat them is to break them. Unfortunately that's not to far away and The governor knows it.Hopefully there are some pieces left for the conservatives to pick up and start again.Without the free stuff.

11:08 just about every word you say is correct, which is why I'm right on the initial point. We're Donkeys because we're special interest groups. Everyone in this area has a stake in playing this game as long as possible. Thusly, we are going to vote Democrat even as the house comes tumbling down. It's going to fun to watch. As we all lose, it will be fun to watch the winners. I'd bet on the teacher union. The have been very successful at selling the "for the children" thing, keeping all the soccer moms lathered up, and have an excellent grass roots propaganda base. The media rolls over and spreads every time for 'em. They will beat out the Vets and Dannie, as the patriotic slant will peter out in the end. We've never been threatened, as our military is too good. And after all, the soldiers can and always have produced with less, something the teachers haven't been able to do with more. Nah, it's teachers, followed by lawyers, followed by welfare bums. Vets a distant fourth. Farmers..out of the picture altogether. Just too unorganized. Put up a crying teacher against a crying farmer (if you could find one), do the math. NO contest. Docs and nurses will be a surprising failure, as they will be undercut by big hospitals and big lawyers. The surprise winner when it all goes down? Fast food and toilet paper. That's where we will be spending our bucks. Buy stock in Taco Hell and Scotty.
