Accidental or Lame Duck?

Governor David Paterson is in trouble according to a new Siena poll released today.

Nearly one year from the time he became New York's accidental Governor he is possibly looking at becoming a lame duck Governor.

By the numbers:
  • Favorable to Unfavorable 40-47%, last month 54-30%
  • Job Performance positive to negative 28-69%, last month 51-45%
  • Only 19% say they would vote for Paterson again while 57% say someone else.
OUCH

I've supported the guy because we need to have leadership in Albany. Silver is a crook, as evidence by his recent pork spending moves, and his willingness to screw a generation of NYers. I have no confidence in the Republicans. They are owned by special interests, teachers unions especially. So I had hoped the Gov would be effective. He was criticized for selecting Gillibrand, which I thought was a great move. But this recent deal of giving all the cronies around him raises, then trying to hide it, is the end for him. I guess we have to let NY rot for a bit longer, wait for the next election, and try try again with yet another person to run things. I wanted him to do well because we needed him to do so. But Patterson is a loser. NY loses if he stays.

The good news is special interests have won. No cuts, everybody stays fat, and taxpayers will see no reform whatsoever.
