I'll Take Mine

This is the attitude of the Governor and Attorney General!

They ask unions and other state workers to enter the shared sacrifice arena and forego a 3% raise, yet they give increases to their staff members. Paterson handed out raises to 17 members of his staff; one getting a 46% increase with the average being 16.7%, while Cuomo handed an average of 7.2%.

Paterson, who has made the state budget woes his own narrative during his first year in office, has failed to match up his rhetoric and actions. He proposes a budget that fails to cut spending and continues "the culture of overspending" as he frequently refers to it and proposes a couple hundred tax hikes and then he doles out raises.

Hiring freeze, cuts in the state work force, shared sacrifice all part of the Governor's mantra! What kind of message does his actions send to New Yorkers?

Jealousy is a terrible thing. The Governor's staff represents a very valuable team. If these people aren't adequately compensated, you risk the chance of losing them or having them work to something less than potential.

This is also sending a valuable message to the unions. Play ball and you're part of the team.

Paterson should be commended for showing the courage to make this necessary move at this time. It would have been real easy to say, "Even though you didn't cause this problem, I am going to make you suffer."

This is really too bad. I've supported the Gov, hoping he would lead in the right direction. This kind of thing makes him look like a crook. I'm very disappointed. How can he deal with fellow crooks like Silver when he sets examples like this?

Iraqi news sources are now saying 5o billion dollars or more were "misplaced" in Iraq. Now considered the biggest theft ever. Thanks for your support of Bush policies and theft, REpublicans. You won't hear that from Rush either, you thieves.

2:47 Bruno? Are you sure this isn't Howard Taft's fault? Brilliant.

For once I agree with diaper man. Bwahahahahahaha for all of us.

We need a strong gov to make necessary changes. If Paterson is destroyed, then we have to wait until the next gov. We can't afford to wait two years until the next guy is in place.

As far as 9:25 stating "Paterson should be commended for showing the courage" to grant raises, you are an amazing fool. Courage, to do this secretly, then lie about it by floating two different "explanations", then asking union folks to give up already negotiated raises? Nice line of thought.

All while teachers get their 5-6%, as usual. Strange world, NY is. Full of strange people.
