County Clerk Showdown!

The race for office of the County Clerk appears to be shaping up, the Watertown Daily Times reported long time NNY resident Cheryl Lane from the Brownville/Dexter area is interested in the office now held by soon to be Republican JoAnn Wilder.

The Lane family is a very active family in the area and Cheryl with 18 years experience in the clerk's office should be a formidable candidate against Staten Island native Gertrude Karris, who is the current Sackets Harbor village clerk.

Let the fun begin!

wow, your playing the upstate downstate game already? For County clerk?

Cheryls a great candidate but so is Gertrude. Why not let the candidates run on their merits not place of birth? Your a piece of work.

Finally! 2 qualified candidates. Who knew that would happen!Democrat or Republican? Who cares? Though I don't know that Ms. Wilder needed to jump ship to support Ms. Lane.

Wonderful news! Is the local GOP wising up?

I listen to CBC Radio One a lot, and yesterday morning at 9:30 while driving home from Watertown Michael Enright (The Sunday Edition) was having a panel discussion on a "constitutional crisis" in Canada inasmuch there are 308 elected members of Parliament (House of Commons) who do not seem to vote in the best interest of their constituencies but, rather, vote as they're told to do by their respective political parties for fear of being passed up for a promotion; or being thrown under the bus come next election; or what have you. I thought "Boy! Sounds like the politics in NNY"

Not only are the electorate disenfranchised, but who is a better leader? Someone who will stand up for what they truly believe regardless of the consequences or someone who will compromise their principles for political security/advancement?

It would be nice to hear their views on tough issues before the "coronation," wouldn't it?

Just wearing a party label or carrying the water of X-party does not make one an effective "leader."

Are you reading into things too much?

Native status is not an issue per se, except that as a long time resident, Ms. Lane has the network of friends, co-workers and family to give her a boost out of the gate. That all adds up to donors, lawn signs and volunteers.
If there is a race, I say Ms. Lane is the early favorite.
I do think the level of equivocation among all the hopefuls is staggering...Just say you want the job...

Anon 2:03 "Finally! 2 qualified candidates."

What makes these two qualified? Gertrude is only a clerk. Not a clerk/treasurer. So she has no experience with budgets, the county clerks office has a budget over 14 million a year. Has either of them had supervisor experience, the county clerk oversees over 30 employes. Gertrude wasn't a hospital administrator as she stated in the paper, she was a surgery schedulor.

Cheryl is a great candidate for the Republicans and we need this election victory to put a little spark under the GOP. It is a county wide race after all not a Watertown race and hopefully Wilder and Gray (PIV) will not give her the kiss of death and get involved. Let her run her own campaign on her merits along with the help of the positive thinkers in the Republican party.

Anonymous CL

Are you helping her on the campaign since you are so knowledgeable?

Of course I will Anon. As usual, I will place signs, make calls, write letters of support fill a chair at campaign functions. I have assisted the Republican party as a campaign volunteer for many years and many elections many different tasks and have worked at the polls in several districts that I have lived in and have volunteered to provide transportation to shut ins.
Lots of stuff and I will do what I can this time too.

Do you mean the positive thinkers like Burto??? He was rumored to be a candidate?? Of course that would mean he would have to give up his "cushy" ATV trail job.

Mr or Mrs CL, where will you be assisting the real CL (Cheryl Lane) in her campaign, what legislative district can she count on your help to carry petitions, put out signs and drive people to the polls?

What difference does it make to you anon. where I make my contribution. You don't even have a name. No name No credibility, zip. You do us no good.

"Of course that would mean he would have to give up his "cushy" ATV trail job."

And, so now you want to piss off them too? We need the votes from Buto's district.

Have you gone completely mad or are you trying to wiggle in an independent and undercut my party?

I don't know anything about this CL's stuff. But some of it strikes me as funny. Then again he was the one who got his feelings hurt about the Wilder "leak". But the entertainment value is beginning to overshadow the partisanship factor.

That Burto stuff has always been a joke, party line lover or not. Trail Coordinator. Right.

Of course you don't know anything about this CL stuff since you are so concerned about your own existence and objectives that you forget that the Republican party is more than just you. You are not doing us any good.

What makes you think I want to do you any good, CL?

As far as being concerned about myself. Nahhh. As long a government gets bigger, and I'm in the perfect place for that, my future is secure. Its your kids that are screwed.

Is there actually a "difference" between a Democrat, and a republician, in this neck of the woods both parties seem to spend money quite freely, I read the back of the Republican handbook with the defination of a Republican and it's a joke.
