Bottom Feeders

Once again New York State has the distinct pleasure of being cellar dwellers in economic categories that are the difference between businesses creating employment or not. Politicians like to say they create jobs when in fact they simply are responsible for a business environment that allows for job creation or not. In this case, not is the appropriate choice for New York.

Next time a politician running for elected state office such as Assembly or Senate campaigns on creating jobs ask them what they intend on doing to reverse these less than stellar achievements. In particular members of the majority conferences in either the Assembly or Senate where in new York's broken system that is all that matters from a policy standpoint.

New York is next to last - #49 - in the category of "business friendly" tax systems.
The Index measures the competitiveness of the 50 states' tax systems and ranks them accordingly based on the taxes that matter most to businesses and business investment: corporate income, individual income, sales, property and unemployment insurance taxes.
Oh, to the proponents of the so called "millionaires tax" that was passed this year with votes by Senator Aubertine and Assemblywoman Russell, it matters - Governor Paterson now recognizes that fact and it was included in this index.

This is a comment to be proud of:
Gov. David Paterson said Wednesday at a gathering of newspaper editors at an Associated Press event in Syracuse. "We've done that. We've probably lost jobs and driven people out of the state."
And to no one's surprise homeowners in New York continue to pay some of the highest property taxes in the Country. Table here.

Specifically Jefferson County standings, out of 775 counties, 1 being the worst and 775 the best. The stats for Jefferson County are not stellar either and not improving.

Median property taxes paid on homes - rank 326 (379 in 2007)
Taxes as a % of home value - 1.6%, rank 132 (1.5% and 157 in 2007)
Taxes as a % of income - 3.4%, rank 253 (2.9% and 343 in 2007)

The old adage that defines stupid
is more apropos today than ever:

"Doing the same thing over and over the same way expecting different results."

That's our motto as we send people to office to "create jobs, lower taxes, and lessen the burden of too much government..."

Works all the time... Wait until 2010 and see... ouch.

didn't you ask AJR to help with the sales tax surcharge? or was that your alter ego so it doesn't count? Local pols can be replaced too...don't blame everything on the state. The Town of Lyme hasn't had a reval in 22 years, don't you think that might make a difference to those folks?

"didn't you ask AJR to help with the sales tax surcharge?"

That is not the way it went. Addie recognized that Scott Gray and the JefCo Board was in deep trouble. So, she called them, offered to bail them out, said she would do it and did it.

But Dan, here in NY we have the kind of government people like YOU want. Donkey all the way. What the hell do you have to complain about? I would expect you to be one happy boy. You say repeatedly you're a proud Dem. Well, we have a proud Dem party running the show. Be happy Dan. Concentrate on the real devil, Fox News.

And there is how many "taxing entities" in Jefferson County? When The county wanted the sales tax adjusted last time they had Gentleman Jim do it, AJR was part of the county board who spent money like crazy.

Addie "Rubber Stamp" Russell voted the bottle bill, she voted for higher Alternative Minimum Tax (AMT), higher Capital Gains & Dividends Taxes, higher Cigarette Taxes, higher Corporate Income Taxes, higher Environment and Energy Taxes, higher Estate and Gift Taxes, higher Excise Taxes, higher Gross Receipts Taxes, higher Income Taxes, higher Lottery and Gambling Taxes, higher Property Taxes with the elimination of STAR, higher Social Security and Payroll Taxes, and I could continue with all the DMV and sportsmen fee increases. Are you better off today than you were before Addie was elected?
Thanks Addie

Hey, I bet if you check the Jeff Co. Legislature record, Addie voted to extend the tax while sitting on Arsenal st. She had to move it in the assembly or expand the questions about her hypocritical leadership.

But remember "Health Care is a right," What about all the County based economic development agencies, who business sit on there board, while being able to get low interest loans for their exsisting businesses, while having the ability to go to a bank.

Public health care "option" which means in essence that a set or series of government-backed plans would be available for those who wanted to enroll or switch from a "private plan."

In other words "competition" against the big, all-encompassing and cruel at times, insurance giants. What's wrong with that?

The GOP loves to speak about competition - just not when it favors poor, low-income or preconditoned folks who don't have much care or coverage now... but it was alright for the "Airlines, TeleComm and a few others."

Jesus dan why is obomas birth cert such a problem? Why don't he just produce the damn thing? This has been going on for a year or more.It is not a unreasonable request by any means. He has spent close to $1.5 million keeping it under wraps. If you want a link I can provide or just google. You have to admit there are many questions yet to be answered. And his shuckin and jiven is just making it worse.

3:20 PM I have watched beck a few times when I can.He makes sense on many things, I find myself agreeing with him on most issues. And you are wrong about him being a GOPer. He hated bush and slammed him and the repugs just as much as oboma. Beck dislikes the whole govnt much like myself.

" Beck dislikes the whole govnt much like myself."

Do you receive any kind of government services? Which ones do you hate the most? The ones you receive or the ones other people receive.?

Anonymous said...

Hey FF I dislike the ones I pay for and everyone else recieves.

I have problems with the government programs that were supposed to be temporary in nature but end up being forever. Not just welfare, but other dishonesties like the Thruway tolls. I also dislike government programs that encourage bad behavior. Why can't we drug test public assistance recipients, and strengthen the laws requiring them to have their kids in school.

I kind of like the welfare idea, where a exsisting business (an auto parts store) not even a hometown store, gets to leave there exsisting location, and move into a brand new building, gotta love it, corporate welfare.

Well Dan, then why is it you feel your manhood is so threatened by the choice that so many are making, watching Fox News? What is it, choice, as long as it agrees with your bias?

Hey anon @ 9/26, If all the youth are leaving why does JCC want to get bigger and expand??? Shouldn't they have to tighten their fiscal belt like everyone else??

Anonymous said...

7:56 That's a fair question. The only reason JCC and some of the other education mills have been able to expand is the influx of military. That, coupled with the fact the kids don't have the option of getting a job any more. There are no real jobs. So the buy some time and study something. Another reason is they can't afford four year schools. The two year option makes sense money wise. I'm not saying JCC and the others like it are a bad value. And I'm not denying that they are growing. But the fact that our youth are leaving, as have been leaving for some time now, is pretty undeniable.

Soon the only ones left will be taxpayers, they soon will face the issue of moving to another state.
