Feds cut off funds for ACORN -

The US House today joined the Senate in voting to defund ACORN, the community advocacy group beset by allegations of voter registration fraud and videotapes apparently showing employees advising conservative activists posing as a prostitute and pimp how to break the law.
The measure, offered as part of a motion on a student loan bill, passed by a vote of 345-75, according to the office of House Republican leader John Boehner.
The Senate voted earlier this week to withdraw housing and urban development funding. Last week, the Census Bureau severed ties with ACORN, which on Wednesday said it is suspending accepting new clients during an investigation.
But congressional Republicans are calling for all federal funds to be cut off and for a Justice Department investigation.

But the state legislature continues to fund them in a bill sponsored by Senator Aubertine.

FOX: "We got cha..."

FOX: one - ACORN: Zero

Did ACRON do any good that any GOPer would admit to?

Um... probably not.

How can the taxpayers save $8.5 billion any easier? finally the house and senate do something right. Keep up the good work.

Since we're cutting off funding, how about cutting off salaries for a few Weasels in office in the process?

Two from the Weasel Dart Board Selection

Now, tell me I'm wrong to point this crap out? The GOP is making a huge stink over "Czars," but where are their memories?

The defunding of ACORN is horrible news. It is a travesty to see their fine works smeared by the racist right over some "staged event".

They have done such good work with voter registration, especially over recent years as we have been able to get out the vote to put the Democrats in the majority.

I am NOT a fan of corruption and/or "got'cha" stunts, either like the one that was used against ACORN and that FOX went nuts over making sure they went down in flames... but you might want to ponder this, too -- extract from Salon.com and constitutional lawyer/professor, Glenn Grennwald - re: ACORN getting $2-3 million a year:

"As previously documented, Goldman Sachs itself has a virtual lock on the top Treasury positions no matter which party is in power. The vaunted bipartisan "Baucus plan" was literally written by a Baucus aide who just left her position as Vice President of Wellpoint to write the health care reform plan for the Senate -- a revelation which barely caused a ripple. And the Supreme Court is on the verge of striking down the few limits on corporate involvement in our politics, a ruling which may (or may not be) constitutionally defensible but which will flood American politics with so much corporate money that it will give new meaning to the term "oligarchy."

"So with this massive pillaging of America's economic security and the control of American government by its richest and most powerful factions growing by the day, to whom is America's intense economic anxiety being directed?

"To a non-profit group that devotes itself to providing minute benefits to people who live under America's poverty line, and which is so powerless in Washington that virtually the entire U.S. Senate just voted to cut off its funding at the first sign of real controversy -- could anyone imagine that happening to a key player in the banking or defense industry?"

BTW: Halliburton/KBR and Blackwater (Xe) killed American troops and other [with faulty wiring in their showers] -- so what happened to their multi-billion in funding? Cut off - oh, no ... increased and kept in tact ... go figure!

ACORN got screwed from the Top-Down

Add this to your we "got ACORN" file - same Salon.com (Glenn Greenwald piece):

"ACORN has received a grand total of $53 million in federal funds over the last 15 years -- an average of $3.5 million per year.

"Meanwhile, not millions, not billions, but trillions of dollars of public funds have been, in the last year alone, transferred to or otherwise used for the benefit of Wall Street."

"Billions of dollars in American taxpayer money vanished into thin air, eaten by private contractors in Iraq and Afghanistan, led by Halliburton subsidiary KBR.

"All of those corporate interests employ armies of lobbyists and bottomless donor activities that ensure they dominate our legislative and regulatory processes, and to be extra certain, the revolving door between industry and government is more prolific than ever, with key corporate officials constantly ending up occupying the government positions with the most influence over those industries.

"Exactly as one would expect, the prime beneficiaries of all of that pillaging continue to grow. The banks that almost brought the world economy to collapse but then received massive public largesse because they were "too big to fail" are now bigger than ever; as The Washington Post delicately put it:

"The crisis may be turning out very well for many of the behemoths that dominate U.S. finance."

"Everything involving the government turns out well for these "behemoths" because they own and control the U.S. Government."

Still don't think - keep on reading and thinking and checking the fact - not checking in with FOX...

Type in "ACORN and KBR" in seach and get this page - then keep on checking:

ACORN and KBR, et al

Enjoy your research: I enjoyed mine - that is if you are interested in honest reporting and facts!

Hey Dan, as long as we're talkin' about ACORN, let's throw in a little bit about how water levels are going down on the St Lawrence or maybe the UN is wasting money in Africa. You sure know how to run around like a stuck pig.

Predictable Dan.

No Danny, keep talking about ACORN. We want to hear what you have to say. But we'd appreciate it if you wouldn't run from topic to topic when you get your ass handed to you. This is about ACORN. Thank you.

Danny M. Francis (Eyepublius) said...

My last word on this - as I said ACORN got $2-3 million from the Feds... but the question is this:

1. What value were they?

2. If FOX and others on the right can railroad a small group like who has had some problems for sure, but a lot more good than bad, and put them virtually out of business.... "Who is next and for what reason? Surely not Blackwater (now Xe) or Halliburton, or KBR or a host of other multi-billion dollar contractors, right?"

Gosh no, Dan, are you nuts?

Anonymous said...

The Feds won't be saving any money, they just "gave" 3.3 Million to the Schools in the North Country to study stress.

We never said you were nuts, Dan. We just consider you a wealth of information that is unavailable from anywhere but the most partisan and programmed dregs of political discussion.

Now, you're back to the Blackwater, Halliburton things. I do remember them. Are they made up of racist Republicans too? I don't understand the linkage. Please explain. We're dying to know. And believe me, we don't think you're a nut. Not at all, Dannie.

Hey, by the way, Dan. You always hated John McHugh. He was a Republican, sorta. Was he a racist? If he is, and there's no way around it in your view, it was kind of mistake to make him Secretary of the Army, as the Army has lots of blacks and minorities in its ranks. Kind of a bad precedent. Makes it hard to get along, wouldn't you think? I think you're right on all this, so I have to consider Obama's choice of McHugh a reeeeely reeeeely bad one.

All you ACORN attackers (concerend about their waste), listen up ...

You want anger, real anger ... okee dokee, then take away this program and watch heads explode.

EAS in Our Local Trough

FYI: Cape Air receives a $3,879,863 annual subsidy from DOT for the Watertown, Massena and Ogdensburg routes. The two-year contract expires in September 2010.

How much is that per passenger, I wonder?

Make new anti-Gov signs and hurry up... LOL

Danny M. Francis (Eyepublius) said...

FN on the EAS for Watertown:

According to the FAA's National Plan of Integrated Airport Systems for 2007-2011, Watertown is classified as commercial service - non-primary because it has between 2,500 and 10,000 passenger boardings per year.

Very excellent 3 minutes ... take the time and then help blast FOX ... it's our duty. FOX is flat out wrong...

OMG. We ask him about the Racist Republicans, therefore the wisdom of appointing John McHugh as Sec of the Army. Dannie reponds with FOUR posts, including info about airline fares and the dreaded FFOOXX NNEEWWSS.

Dan, I don't care about airfares and subsidies. That's all just another government scam where they throw taxpayer money away. Being a function of govment, I would think you would have no problem with it either. That's right up your alley.

As far as FFOOXX NNEEWWSS is concerned. I concede. They're racist. Just like the Republicans. They are horrible people and we should put them out of business. Unless they agree to report the news like you want it reported.

All I want is a simple answer to one question. McHugh is from that evil party you've told us about. Should The Great One have selected a man like this as Secretary of the Army? You have been a frequent critic of Mr McHugh. I, personally, can't see how the President could have slipped up this badly. You, being a the great judge of personal character that you are, should be able to tell us of the quality of this decision. That's all I humbly ask. Nothing about airfares, Fox News, racism, just about this McHugh thing. Thanks so much.

Danny M. Francis (Eyepublius) said...

McHugh is a very good choice and I've said so many times, including here... please stay awake in class -- your grades are suffering greatly... but the GED option is still out there fer ya...

But that is the problem. How can he be a racist and a good choice to be Secretary of the Army? Sorry Dan, but like a crappy teacher, you're upset that I DID pay attention when you ran your mouth. Now you have to explain yourself. When you make sweeping, stupid statements they show you for what you are.

tic toc and all that
How could you support McHugh when you spent years expressing your hatred for him and clearly state his party is one of RACISM?

Does ACORN get state money? How come we haven't heard a peep about this from Senator Aubertine?

At present a insider ivestigation is being conducted of the working families party.AKA acorn you likely would be correct to assume they get state funds plus other corrupt shenanigans. We have only scratched the surface this gangrene infested organization runs deeeeep.I'm guessing all the way to the whitehouse.Take it away dan

Danny M. Francis (Eyepublius) said...

What happened in this case is bad and is under investigation -- but on the other hand (always another hand, right) -- the so-called reporters (who were merely GOP-RW hacks and ameuters) played a nasty game of "got cha" "news" -- and in Philly they had the cops called out on them.

What cha make of that.

So Dan, you're mad at Fox (this time) because you believe it was them who employed the pair that nailed ACORN? I understand.

Dannie, Fox covered it because an organization that has received tens of millions of dollars has legal obligations. They weren't following those obligations. Even a gentleman like you would admit this fact. Or then again maybe not. This latest scam regarding ACORN'S willingness to help set up whorehouses is really not the big issue. It's about voter registration games and the disappearance of millions of dollars to an address of a funeral home, all which stayed quietly in the background of the mainstream media. Only your dreaded FFOOXX NNEEWWSS reported much about it. Why is that, my biased fool?

Ahh, I know your thinking. Fox is racist, I'm racist. Anybody who disagrees with you is racist. Such a useful tool for a man who can't think for himself.

Anonymous said...

More gas for the fire.NEA and SEIU left a paper trail of funds funneled to acorn. Over 1.3 million from the teachers union alone. HOHOHO more racism to come get ready.

Anonymous said...

9:38 I didn't know about that. I'll bet it was reported by the unbiased, mainstream media. Whether it was or wasn't is not the point. The fact is this story, the FUNDS and VOTER IRREGULARITIES Dan, was a story that was hidden for weeks by the mainstream media. It should have been reported. It was not. Yet you want to cry about the whorehouse deal. That isn't the real issue.
