"Old Game Is Over"

Stephen Aquario, Executive Director of the NYS Association of Counties discusses how NYS has changed forever and how the "old game is over". The legislature needs to understand that and make some serious changes, because it is game over. Senator Aubertine is correct when answering the question about whether or not the legislature is dragging its feet, he said the process needs to be deliberate, correct, but on the other hand the fiscal situation is not new, the legislature knew it was coming.

Talk about the "game" being over and ?????

"We sent a letter to the clerk laying out the totals. The key is that Hoffman conceded, which means the race is not contested.

"However, all ballots will be counted, and if the result changes, Owens will have to be removed." ~ John Conklin, communications director for the state Board of Elections.

How about that for ending the game?

23 Race NOT Over Yet???

One of the biggest reasons spending is out of control is special interests have successfully controlled the terms of debtate. That is reductions in the growth rate of spending are alway referred to as "cuts".

So if medicaid spending is projected to increase 10% but only increases 9% it is called a "cut". If it increases 8% it's called a "massive cut." The unions and special interests run propaganda ad campaigns deploring these so called "cuts". The public isn't aware that these "massive cuts" are very often nothing more than mild reductions in the growth rate of spending.
The state needs to revert to zero based budgeting and start hacking away.

2:12 You are so absolutey right. This has been going on for years. School districts were the first to take this kind of dishonesty to an art form but lots of government agencies are good at it. And to their credit, it has worked. The spending in NYS is completely out of control. But so many are at the public bucket it is difficult to slow down.

We do have a national problem, but much of our real emergency is right here in NY.

Thank you 2:12 for saying what we all know, but are too afraid to say.

That's good news dan I had'nt heard this.Been busy with the good weather and all.But I was wondering why it was called when there were still 10k votes left to count.I guess our hopes are with the seniors and military? Good a place as any to place our survival.Could be alot worse like welfare recipients and seiu members, but they've been counted already.

I had to laugh at the local JCIDA wanting to extend PILOT agreements to wind Farms, it certainly would be nice if somebody would take the burden off the backs of the folks who make 25K and are trying to support a family, save for retirement, pay for health coverage, etc. etc. A friend of mines daughter is a State Trooper downstate, she got 20 hrs. OT for the funeral, way to pad the retirement.

And the Feds just gave the City of Syracuse $300,000 to enforce the "cell phone" law, trouble is it has to be for OT only, this in effect will pad the individuals retire for which the state taxpayers are on the hook for.
