Smoker's Hotline Heats Up

New York State raised the tax on cigarettes by $1.25 a pack. The intention of the raise was to increase revenue, which it probably will do, but one thing it definitely did was raise calls to the Department of Health Quitline.

The increase tax took effect the week of June 2 and calls to the hotline were four times that of a year ago.

Here is the report from LoHud
The Quitline is 800-NY-Quits

Yeah, I'm one of those who called the hotline. I don't smoke, never have. I called because I want to know how many millions of my taxdollars they have pissed away on those freakin' television commercials and this "Reality Check" propaganda program for kids that makes the Hitler Youth look innocent. Talk about indoctrination. They have absolutely no evidence that movies or advertisements are responsible for convincing kids to start smoking, yet they continue to lie about it. They figure that the sheep who are stupid enough to believe that more taxes will force people to quit smoking are also likely to believe that Little Suzy started smoking because she saw Jennifer Aniston light-up in a movie. Give me a freakin' break!!!
