Hey Sean, you have your head up your.....
Read the press release here on
If Sean was concerned about "public" service he would advocate for the most qualified person, regardless of party.
Mike Kinnie resigned from Sackets Harbor as Mayor, they should back fill the seat with the most qualified person, party should not be a prerequisite.
Allen Drake's position as supervisor in the Town of Theresa, was filled by someone they thought was best fit to handle the job, it just happened to be a Republican. Congratulations Allen for thinking non-partisan and looking out for the people of the town.
Such thinking like what Hennessey reduced to writing has to make you shake your head!

It surprises me not at all the Hennessheee makes partisanship a central issue yet again. The man knows nothing else. Some would say it is his job to act like a fool about everything. I'd say he does his job, consistantly. What a fool. It must be a strange way to live, to see partisanship in every aspect of life. As far as the job of mayor of Sackets, who cares?
I guess Seannnie does.
I need to wade in here - IV...
Your post in part says, "Sean Hennessey, chairman of the Jefferson County Democratic committee believes party prevails or qualifications when back filling elected positions."
Here's an example fer ya' IV:
* GOP president dies in office; GOP VP moves up and then both Houses (House and Senate) picks a DEM and not a GOPer as the next VP
(XXV amendment does not mention party in that process) ... because they have the votes as majority - fair or not?
It's the same analogy...
Party vacancies of any elected person should stay in that party hands, changes will come in the next election...
The qualifications come out during an election - not during an appointment circumstance.
You are wrong IV...
It's cold and there isn't anything better to do but read blogs and make comments.
Allow me to commit political suicide in front of all you [knowing that some of you wish I would really die]
I am a fence ridin democrat willing to cross the archaic party lines in a god damn heartbeat. Pick the best person that you believe in for the job, regardless of party affiliations.
Sorry SH and esp. TF I told you before that I am not a die hard democrat only a voter willing to cross party lines at anytime...
BANG!!!! I'M DEAD ;)
Geeze J.C., I gotta agree with Dan on this one.
I was a Repug for 38 years and was involved in appointments, one of which was given to me. They are given according to party lines.
PIV was blowing smoke on this one. Remember, he hides behind anonymity. If he was using his name here his party would be crapping all over him at the next meeting.
However, I do agree with the voting part. When we pull the curtain, we still have the right of choice and I, too, have no party loyalty when it comes to the secret ballot.
Naw G.Wiley no need to hem and haw. I would never want anything given to me whether it was a repug or dempcrap appt. I would want the appt based on my stellar background as a human being rather than based on my sole merits as a democrat
You are just plain gutless taking shots at a good guy like Sean behind your anonn status. If you believed this "best person" stuff you would have supported Darrel for Senate. You only root for a "nonpartisan" approach when it can benefit your partisan wants. At least Sean is a party chair, in addition to a great guy. His opinion has validity and credibility, while you do not.
Let me go out on a very narrow limb anonymous said January 16, 2009 8:37 PM.
This is so cool that you said this:
You are just plain gutless taking shots at a good guy like Sean behind your anonn status.
take a look at yourself you annonyhole
In his letter, Sean, in part, said:
"and accept a well qualified Democrat to fill out the term of outgoing Mayor Kinney."
As a good party chairman would, he defended his party and asked them to also address qualifications. Sean was doing his job.
Yes, PIV this was a cheap shot taken by a man who screws up his courage with anonymity. I don't always agree with politics, but as a politician yourself, you should have some sense of loyalty to those who work hard for you.
If Sackets Harbor is a village duly incorperated, then the caucuses of both parties (that must be held between January 22 and 29) will select party reps that will stand for election on WEDNESDAY March 18......
Village election are on Wed. this year....
I'm sure Sacket's can wait two months
Gee, I'm really surprised that Heenecrap puts party above all else. And I'm reeeely surprised that Wiley AGREES with him that party is like the most important thing since flushing the toilet. He probably has dreams about party affiliation.
But honestly, I AM surprised that Danny does the same, in this case anyway. Dan has shown a willingness to think on his own, now and then, as has the PGmeister.
WHY, WHY, WHY does party have to be soooo important to these people ALL THE DAMN TIME? I don't understand it.
Can't we give it a rest? Just once in a while?
I don't know the people involved in the Sackets situation, thus do not know who the best person might be. But I do know making party affiliation the most important aspect of the choice is just plain dumb. Typical of some folks, like Hennesiee, but just plain dumb.
I wish we could get away from this. But it seems like we are more embroiled in this party loyalty thing than ever before.
I don't blame you for getting mad about it, 8:37, most of us don't want to hear about it. It makes us look stupid, which we increasingly are.
"And I'm reeeely surprised that Wiley AGREES with him that party is like the most important thing since flushing the toilet"
Anon.,
A Republican chairman's job at any level would be to promote his own party.
A Democratic chairman's job at any level would be to promote his own party.
Anything other action would be wrong for a PARTY CHAIRMAN.
I am the first to say that party is not all important. Because I am a moderate progressive , have changed parties and seldom vote a straight ticket.
And, I would be the first to say that party is not everything and often is comparable to what's in that toilet you refer to.
But, Sean is the PARTY CHAIRMAN !! It is his job to be partisan.
I am amazed that you and PIV can't figure that one out.
If the Republican Chair had written the same letter, PIV wouldn't be crying. He would be bragging about how the Republicans are pulling themselves up by the bootstraps and regaining their strength.
If we want the best for the tax payer which is the elected officials first priority then you pick the best candidate regardless of party. Remember you politicians you work for the taxpayers, keep the political parties out of it!
Or we voters will keep you out!
Danny Boy; An appointment to a vacancy could be for a year. To say that vacancies should stay in party hands is wrong. I guess you don't want the best person for the job danny, and that's why you'll never get elected to a position.
Wiley you are wrong again. YOU SAID APPOINTMENTS- "They are given according to party lines" How many examples would you like us to show you?
Don't you read before you post!
Yup, I knew Wiley would say it was hhenesiiesie job to play the partisan fool. I knew it. You could just feeeeeel it comin. Wiley is right. Henessseey is doing the fools job, very well.
Lockstep thinkin again.
Ya have to look at the person and the political position. You might have confidence in a person and their abilities and experience for trustee but not mayor. It actually does not make any difference. Alot of taxpayers/voters think their civic duty is done once they leave the voting booth. Wrong! The best way to keep the politicians on the right track is to go to the meetings make your presence known and voice your opinion. No good sitting here and bitching about it. I go to our VB meetings and record them and upload the audio to my blog and then I bitch about the VB. Lots of fun!
What A Joke - "His opinion has validity and credibility" and your talking about Sean Hennessy. You must be on his payroll or another relative.
Let me tell you what Hennesey won't. Kinnie pulled a fast one to get the mayor position is Sackets. He loaded up the caucus with his buddies (Thats the way it works with the Dems in Sackets, The Republicans petition)
The guy he ousted to get the Dem line was no other than Mark Pacillio who went out of business and became Addie Russel's "non district resident" chief of Staff!
Hardly a Democrat Love in.
One last thing to Sean and all you Dems. All of us are Democratic. Some of us are Republicans, Conservatives, Democrats, etc.
I hope they pick the right person, Party be damned!
The Pgmeister is makin more sense than anyone here. We gotta get off this party line stuff. Hey, he's a donkey. Good for him. But his world doesn't revolve around party loyalty.
I used to like that pg when I worked with him on a big hill. Didn't know why then. Now I do. And the sad thing is you're right. You probably won't be chosen for a party line "hack" job now that you've spoken out about independent thought. Heneeifee and his ilk will have none of that. But just like Danny I will vote for you too if the time comes.
On a big ski hill?
I'm not in the market for a political hack job. That would compromise my ethics [yes I have ethics]. I am a sleeping dog with one eye open......I have been watching and now I am barking
Anon 9:01:
Oops - you certainly misjudge me and misstate my views -- but that's okay.
Let me be clear: I am a DEM and have been all my adult life - first voted in 1964 for LBJ while still on active duty.
BUT, I HAVE CROSSED lines and voted for the best person that I, AND NOT THE PARTY, thought was the right choice for the position.
* Filling a vacancy should remain in the party of the person leaving until the next election - then we can have that debate on who is best ...
Either way, I'd appreciate it if you'd allow me to make a fool out of myself, myself ... most of us at these troughs are capable of that without any undue influence or snide remarks from the peanut gallery.
~ soapbox away...
you folks in Jeff CO. are getting a little too hostile over Sackets...could this be the second battle of Sackets? Do we in Oswego County need to send a second cable up there to restain you all?
Dear Pg; We could really use you to run for a village or town position. With all your hard work you would be a shoe-in! Your dedication has been tremendous from walking the unshoveled sidewalks to report violations to helping provide accurate facts for the village and town boards to use in making important decisions. If you don't want to run for an elected position you should think seriously about accepting an appointment. I know for a fact that one of the boards wanted you to take over the zoning offficer position. The pay looks pretty good and we need some enforcement. Ask cur he knows.
Come-on Pg, Step-up, No more excuses we've heard them already.
Local Skifter 2:
I am flattered by your mockery.
