This Sums It Up

Watch this well done video, it pretty much sums up what the Republicans stand for; lower taxes, smaller government, transparency in governing, diversity, national security. It is not about being moderate or conservative it is about proper governing to address issues of concern.

Thinking about joining us, here are our candidates for the RNC chairman's race

Maybe I should listen to what the Democrats have to say.

IV your partisan blindness is amazing.

Lower taxes, except where we can hide them; Smaller government, except when we're in power and have friends/donors to put in political posts; transparency in government, except when we have to hide secret meetings with oil executives to make an energy policy; diversity, in commercials only; national security, if you mean scaring people.

Let's be honest here. The truest definition of the national Republican Party is we cow-tow to Corporate Interests and talk a good game about social issues.

The truest Democratic Party national definition is cow-tow to special interests on social issues, environmental issues, unions and others.

Let's face it. We need a new party.

One that understands lower taxes doesn't mean giveaways to retail stores that merely shift jobs to them at a lower wage.

One that understands that gay marriage is a fringe issue and not the basis on which we should run a country. And abortion is not the number one women's issue.

One that understands science is not evil and environment matters, but there has to be a balance between what's feasible and what's ideal.

One that understands that no single person can save us. We must work together and let the issues, not the personality drive us.

One that understands that we need to involve as many people as possible in the process. This is a democracy, not an oligarchy where the rich decide. We need documents and information and more accountability for our lawmakers and executive branch.

One that understands that the people at the bottom half of our economic scale, the every day person and the small business, drive this economy. We need more money in the hands of our middle class and less incumberance on small business. If that means taking the resources government needs from the top of the scale, so be it.

One that understands that being a good neighbor and a helpful friend is the best way to keep the peace, not threats and violence. However, at the same time recognizes that if we have to defend ourselves, it's ok.

Sadly, that's where much of America is, but neither party comes close to meeting all of those criteria. Most certainly not the Republicans.

1:46 And most certainly, not the Democrats. Just to respond to your bias.

A lot of what you say is, unfortunately, true. The elephants didn't cut spending or taxes as promised, they instead entered into competition for votes, much like the donkeys. The Republicans should know that they are not going to be able to compete in that arena.

My problem with the Dems is they have created not only the welfare bum constituency, but the government worker class. Teachers, government employees, social workers, an entire group who, much like the bums, are so insulated from reality they have no feeling for the folks who haven't had raises in years. Or haven't had benefit increases to match their own. That WWNY story on local teachers still getting 4-6% raises, even in this climate, was an interesting read. These people think they are entitled. Forget the fact that so many are unemployed. They think the show should go on, as they are the chosen few. And for the past two decades, they have been. How else do you think Wiley gets the bucks to travel the world?

But this post, which mostly cites the ill of the Republicans, has a lot of truth in it. Now we can do one on the other side.

"These people think they are entitled. " They are entitled. They are organized and have unions. They entered into a legally binding agreement that guarantees their salaries. It is called organized labor and it made our country great by building a middle class. We all make our choices and you had the same opportunity. Too bad.

I totally agree with the sentiments of those in the film and of the GOP, in general, but (always a but, right?), the rightwing of that once great party has occupied the common sense pews and and almost forced people into that narrow row of pews ...

And, God forbid that there be another progressive (like Teddy Roosevelt) or liberal (like Nelson Rockefeller) or moderate (like quite a few) who nowadays have to "act conservative" in order to survive in the "big tent" party. Why? That big tent they so often talk about: It has only one tent flap that is open and getting ideas through it is carefully controlled by the narrow bunch in charge.

We all know and until that narrow bunch realize that there are others with sound ideas and visions and stuff, the GOP will wonder for years (maybe not up here, but across the country)...

In my humble opinion. (btw: my Mother was a Republican - my Dad, the DEM).

You're right, OswegoDem. Unions, at least public employee unions, have made it possible for some to prosper, at the expense of the stupid people who work for a living. They've also made it possible to ruin the future for them kids we pretend to care about so much.

Don't be mistaken, and don't be smug. I've been able to benefit from the preferential treatment as well. I got on the right side of the fence. But we who have had advantages should now admit we need to stop this train. Just because public employees and teachers CAN screw our kids for a little longer, as they have the political upper hand, doesn't mean they/we should. Somewhere along the line we have to assume some responsibility and start living like other people. We have been greedy too long.

Perhaps if John McHugh and many others provided sound leadership by refusing his raises which he has claimed he had to take because it was the law, I would buy into your prejudices. You just hate teachers and they are your latest victims. There are many imbalances in what people get paid to do and teachers are not one of them. Hell, the highest paid government worker is, I think over a millions of dollars per year , the football coach at the Air Force academy.

No wonder you hide under your KKK type of
hood anonymity and reinforce your lunacy with personal attacks on those who comment. You don't even have the courage of your convictions to post with a consistent name. People with courage and names and faces have been talking your line for years in fronts of Boards of Education. You are also too ignorant to know what teachers and their bargaining units have given back for years and years.

What makes you think that "any mouse" with no credibility complaining on a local blog is going to make any difference?

You would not survive ten minutes in a classroom and certainly not long enough to reach tenure. They would kick you in your warm belly right after you took your first attendance.

Put anon in the classroom. With a bag over his head of course, and no name. See how long he lasts. Of course he will have all the answers and refuse his benefits and retirement and social security. No lesson plans necessary since he can make it up as he goes along.

You may be disappointed to know that I did teach for quite a few years, 14 actually. I expect this will bring knee jerk letters of denial, but sorry, it is true. I'm not speaking without at least some experience. I enjoyed it a great deal. That doesn't mean I don't recognize greed. Changes have to be made. Honest educators recognize this. No one, if you get them alone and sober, will suggest we can keep up these spending increases much longer. The game will be over soon whether you deny reality or not.

And isn't this response interesting. I speak of political imbalance. I name teachers and public employees, groups I have been part of during my working career. The response involves Wiley labeling me "KKK" and another great thinker correctly spelling the word sludge. Not a word debating the imbalance I cite as being part of our problem.

The numbers are there. Some decisions have to be made. If all you can do is respond this way it is very clear that you have lost the debate.

And did I tell you that would be the response. They have to deny it, because it blows the lid off their argument. Actually, I took a job that paid more money. I traded that off for having to work full time. Sometimes I regret it, especially during the summer. Winter too, now that 2 hour delays seem the norm.

Whatever.

As I've said in the past, Wiley types don't have to worry. The lard will be there for you. Nothing will change. But taxpayers, any that are left in NY, will have to make changes soon. It can't keep going as it has regarding public spending. We all know it. Throwing temper tantrums directed at me changes nothing. And I've got mine too. I got a good deal from the taxpayers as well. But we won't be able to keep doing what we are doing. The waste, nepotism, and special interest corruption is unsustainable. This really isn't about you or me, it is about the system. If the taxpayer only knew. Thanks be to the media who keeps our little secret.

Your are the worse reader in the class. Your posts are fractured and never to the point and the stories you write wander from the topic. You can't spell and you can't write a proper sentence. You are flunking!

And, now you lie to the class and claim you were a teacher.

Write 100 times,

I will always sign my paper and will not lie to the class.

"I traded that off for having to work full time. Sometimes I regret it, especially during the summer. Winter too, now that 2 hour delays seem the norm."

Liar, Liar, pants on fire.

1. If you worked 14 years you would have been on top of the salary schedule. You would have been past the tens years that it takes teachers to get their advanced degrees and would then be able to actually enjoy some of the time off instead of going to college nights and summers. You never would have passed up the rewards of a job you now claim pays too much. You never would have risked losing the investment you had in your retirement plan.

2. As a former teacher you never would have made the statement about the two hour delays. Those days are some of the hardest on teachers. They deal with worried and distracted children. Their plans for those days are canceled and they deal with a host of other problems. I never yet met a teacher that wanted delays.

3. Your comment about part time lends more proof. That is a statement used by those who have no understanding of what a teacher actually does and what their day or school year is like.

Liar!

11:51 I am the "worse" reader in the class?

Oswego Never coached.

1:12 You asked about my Masters degree. I have two. Which one do you refer to? Some people get them for reasons other than to secure lifelong employment in the educational field. And some are actually in science, not in the History of Women in Island Cultures. Sorry, I know I'm an ass.

Tell you what. The folks who are compelled to believe I am lying are not going to change their minds. That wouldn't fit the agenda. So let it be.

Fact remains. You folks are coming out of the woodwork because you know there is a point to what I am saying. You are taking it personally because it IS personal with you. For a long time you've taken long vacations in the Bahamas (in Wiley's case, Turkey, China, etc) all the while hiding behind "the children". Whether one believes your story or not doesn't matter. There's no more money for your party to continue. Teachers deserve time off. It is a tough job. They deserve to be respected. But lathering money on you people and establishing programs, then continuing them, when they do not work, is not the answer. More money is not the answer.

It is just my opinion, Mr and Mrs, along with Ms and Transgender Educator. If it is so off based, why does it bother you so much? If you were so confident in your argument you wouldn't feel the need to after people with varying opinions.

ConcernedCitizen said...

"For a long time you've taken long vacations in the Bahamas (in Wiley's case, Turkey, China, etc) all the while hiding behind "the children"......"

I don't take vacations, Anon. I am retired. Retirement was the great American dream of many of us poor people who started working in the fifties and I achieved it. I worked hard, raised my children, saved my money, was lucky to keep my health and now travel because I never lived beyond my means, never lived on credit and never did travel vacations during my working days. I had a career, held many different part time jobs, and earned a commercial pilot license which allowed me to run a successful business which I ran for 20 years, sold and put into my retirement.

I will never apologize to you or anyone else for what I did or now do with my life because I came upon it honestly and worked hard. I don't mind you directing your anger toward me, because it has no effect on me and will make no difference in how I live my remaining few years. And, I don't mind you being so wrong about who I am, since I find that a bit amusing.

Now, If you want to create change in what you perceive as bloat and evil in education and the financial greed of teachers you are wasting time here. Go to a meeting of your local school board and hammer away. But you should prepare a different presentation other than the one you give here.

"Jefferson's Leaning Left"

Anonymous said...

No different presentation necessary, Mr Wiley. You can travel and spend all you like. Enjoy yourself. My objections are directed towards our system. We've thrown money at our educational "system" for years. Result, our kids have nothing to stay here for. Unless they get a government job or daddy owns something important, they have to move. Is that really what we want to do for them? Teaching is a demanding job that deserves pay and respect. I have no problem with professionals receiving both. What I do object to is this continuing, mindless knee jerk politically correct train ride that dictates more and more money be spent by a special interest group that has long since forgotten that people are reaching the end of their ability to pay. It is not that we don't love children. At times, we even love you, Mr Wiley, as well as your union. We just have no more money.

Again, it likely is not something that will change in either of our lifetimes. The politicians are bought and paid for. The media asks few questions. And the folks have been numbed into submission. Relax, and plan another trip somewhere. If you book it through a teachers group you can save a bunch of money, and travel with like minded people.

ConcernedCitizen said...

" If you book it through a teachers group you can save a bunch of money, and travel with like minded people."

I can't do that PIV. Because I am not a member of a teacher's union and I would not qualify. And I have never booked any trips through a teachers group.

I admire your attempt to try to make sense, but yet you screw it up with animosity and personal prejudice and some kind of weird open jealousy toward those you attack.

ConcernedCitizen said...
