What The Ag Chair Really Means

Senator Darrel Aubertine was one of a couple upstate lawmakers to make committee chair being appoint Ag Chair. The representation of the Senate Democratic Conference is mainly concentrated in and around New York City.

Here is what a former colleague, Bill Parment, D-Harmony had to say on Darrel's chairmanship. Don't all you koolaide drinkers howl at poor 'ole P IV, I'm just being the messenger here.
A concern for some is that Democratic control over the state Senate will mean issues important to the agriculture committee will take a back seat to other priorities of the Democratic caucus, like environmental issues.

''The challenge for Darrel Aubertine will be to ensure a balanced approach between environmental and agricultural issues,'' Parment said. ''His challenge will probably be to fight his own conference.'' ...
Is Darrel Aubertine, farmer-Cape Vincent, up for the task of fighting his own conference, time will tell. He was up to the task of two hard fought political campaigns, it looks like he can't rest as the fight to represent us will continue.

Right on, PIV. Darrel has shown himself to be a formidable campaigner: disciplined, likeable, hard-working.

On the governing side, not so much: no significant legislative accomplishments, repeated faux pas and mishandled opportunities, and a desperately needy district that is regularly overlooked.

Time WILL tell. I hope there's anyone left here -- gainfully employed, that is -- to be able to tell the difference.

WHY NOT SHOW THE WHOLE ARTICLE:

But with Democrats maintaining only a 32-30 majority in the state Senate, they will need every vote they can get, especially Aubertine's, Parment said. That means Aubertine could be free to act on behalf of farmers without downstate Democrats telling him what to do.

According to Parment, farmers throughout Sen. Young's district, including those in Chautauqua County, have nothing to fear from Aubertine since Aubertine's constituents share the same concerns as those throughout the Southern Tier.

''Aubertine is a farmer. He was a farmer before he came to the Legislature,'' Parment said. ''I don't think Chautauqua County farmers have anything specifically to worry about. I don't think Darrel Aubertine will change the emphasis of that committee.''

Darrel is a formidable campaigner. Just look up his campaign finance report to see how many college kids he bankrolled to work for him.
But he needed all that help because he was busy saving the Fulton hospital

Someone needs to give him a map so he can find his way to Oswego County. Maybe the Gov can help him find his way here

Don't forget the unemployed fisherman he PAID (cash, not listed) to flip the Barclay election.
So, will he be using the power of total dem control to open up the Salmon River through private property? likely not much more of a chance as he had of saving the hospital---his "fish tale" that won him round two.
don't bother directing him to Oswego County, we're on to him and don't care to see him. The WDT editorial on him just before Christmas is being xeroxed over and over and serves us a constant reminder who/what lies behind the "puppy dog, aw shucks" stupid smile

I believe there is more to that story. Maybe the P IV should at least cite his reference on this one. I dont think its as bad as it sounds. Please tell us where you got this story so that we can judge for ourselves, Messenger.
