Upstate is Cool....

Not just the weather, but cool to the Guv's job performance. A majority of the respondents, 57%, rate Governor Paterson's performance as either poor or just fair, while 35% think good or excellent.

Comparatively, his December numbers were 38% thought he performance was poor or fair, while 55% thought good or excellent.

His numbers flipped in a month, what has changed?  A budget!

This is what happens when Democrats take ownership of difficult issues, like the Republican's experienced while they were in control, their numbers sink. The Democratic legislature is naive' if they think it will not happen to them as well. Especially when there is no one to blame for failures but themselves.

Pointing fingers and assessing blame is a complete waste of time, and easy to do for either party. If the blame game is eliminated then "our" political leaders can focus on running the state [not into the ground] without any distractions' Kinda like a eunuch in charge of a harem....

I don't know what that means, JC.

What we need is pols who are willing to take the blame, in other words, LEAD. Sure, in the short run, they will suffer from the special interests and their media puppets. But in the long run, they will be appreciated by thinking voters. And the children we supposedly care so much about. In the past, both parties have had no backbone to stand up to this. If the dems do, then so be it. I wish them well. And I'll vote for them.

We have to cut spending. We have to make tough budget decisions. We have to freeze teacher and state employee salaries. We have to stop making the state a welfare mecca. we have to cut regulation. We have to stop running businesses out of the state with taxes.

Let's get to it. Donkey or Elephant, let's get it done. Remember, it's for the children.

The bloom is off the rose. Fact is, Paterson has failed to effectively lead.

It will only get worse when his downstate toadies and their Upstate Democratic Caucus -- led by our own Darrel A. -- rubberstamp his disastrous budget plan.

Get a good grip on your ankles, cuz here they come!

Who in upstate every heard of the man before he became the governor?

Probably those rating him in the 35percentile thought they were voting on SNL performances.

Well, I am willing to give him some more time. Let's hope the budget he works out is a step in the right direction. We have to hope he is successful. There isn't any more money. If they raise taxes on the "rich", as they seem to be hinting about, it is only going to work for a year. It will probably cause more harm than good, but one year, that's it. Next year will bring a bigger deficit. What then? Bottom line, they have to cut costs. Teachers, state government, health, welfare, roads, prisons, every damn thing.

We refused to cut anything in particular, so we will have to cut everything.
