What Do They Have In Common?

Turns out Joe the Plumber and Secretary of Treasury nominee Tim Geithner have a little bit in common, unpaid taxes.

But what is the difference, one is prepared to ascent to power and one questioned power! And the one who questioned power received the headlines and scrutiny of the media for his unpaid taxes while the other gets a free pass and nothing more than "it was a common ordinary honest mistake."

Tim Geithner who as Secretary of Treasury would oversee the very agency charged with collecting his taxes, the compassionate IRS.
"The most significant tax concern is identified as Mr. Geithner’s failure to pay Social Security taxes during his entire tenure at the IMF, which began in 2001 and concluded in 2003 (some compensation was not paid until calendar year 2004). He paid no FICA taxes or self-employement taxes with respect to the IMF income during that time."
Yet, there are one set of rules for Joe the Plumbers and another set for Tim the Treasury head.

Obama is showing he has one thing in common with his predecessor, W, they both have loyalty and possibly to a fault. The media is not doing their job when issues like this get a free pass.

Huffington Post, Raw Story, Buzzflash and many other of the "liberal" sources reported this story DAYS AGO.
They even included the addendum which told of Mr. Geithner's "alien domestic help" problem.

Either you were just a bit slow on this one, PIV, or your sources did not report it.

These weaknesses in Mr. Geithner's vetting, offend me and many others and are reason to question his appointment. The Republicans are in a good position to block it.

I am amazed that it would concern you after 8 years of Bush appointments and of course your failure to react or complain during the initial vetting, or lack there of , both Ms. Palin and Joe.

I'll say it once and then drop it: Mr. Timothy Geithner should withdraw or his name withdrawn by Mr. Obama ... he is NOT deserving of this position.

Two insults are obvious: (1) He did not pay his taxes as the law says and now he wants to oversee the IRS? (2) For the Obama team to say "he's the ONLY man for the job" is more of an insult. What if he dropped dead tomorrow? No replacement could be found? Hardly.

The excuses are weak and this is no way to start a new administration.

Or as President Lincoln once quipped when after he said an opponents's argument was weak, and after the opponent asked, "How weak," Lincoln said:

"Your argument, sir, is as weak as soup made by boiling the shadow of a pigeon that had starved to death."

~ soapbox away now. I'm done.

Holy crap. Wiley actually made a balanced (sort of) statement. I don't remember Bush appointing tax cheats to head the IRS, but at least your trying, by your standards. Danny doing so is not exactly groundbreaking, but commendable anyway.

I don't understand that appointment. How can people have confidence in their government with someone like that in charge.

If 'W' was still president he would fire Geithner and put Joe the plumber in charge of the US Treasury. After all this is all part of Jesus's plan for America. Besides Geithner is to smart!

I wish I could be back for the great celebrations. I even hear there is a local one in Clayton. However, I am sure the PIV, the independent voice of reason, will keep me informed about local enthusiasm.

Drudge is a bit concerned about the money spent for those celebrations, but at least that money is going directly into our failing economy in the form of all kinds of services; food, entertainment, rooms, labor, parking fees, etc., etc.

A Republican buddy of mine says that he and many of his conservative neighbors across the river from Washington are getting a much needed financial boost as they have moved out of their condos for a week and have rented to the libs; big bucks!

As for the wing nuts, I would recommend Drudge, Rush Archives or Law and Order (my favorite) reruns.

I'd rather have Joe the Plumber. At least he was making some kind of deal to try to pay his taxes. Obama's boy waited to pay until he was offered the govment job.

How the heck can we defend a tax cheat to run the IRS? The guy should be in jail. WE would be if we did that crap. Has it really come to this, Wiley, that being a criminal is ok as long as it's the right party affiliation? Then, when there is no defense, you bring up GWB.

Very strange world. I don't care if we get a donkey. That's to be expected. That's fine. But can't we have one who obeys the tax laws? Is that too much to ask, Mr Wiley?

Glass houses? Wingnuts never cheat on their taxes, heck many don't even file returns.

Note to wingnuts who do their own taxes, ammunition is not deductible.

Anon. above is a few words shy of understanding the English language.
RWiley clearly said that he would be offended if Geithner's appointment was not questioned.
This brain dead anon. is hardly correct and seems to always be stupid and wrong. Hang it up dude.

Yes it is, Under security gov'nt spends billions on it. The individual can do it for 20 bucks.Real bargain in my book.

Wrong. Guns is my right. So is ammo. God gave us both. American is God, Guns, and Ammo first. Gun owners get dealer licenses so to deduct stuff. HaHa.

If that is your criteria for forgiveness then forgive Tim.
You missed the part where he made restitution many years ago. Rush only tells you half of the story, dude.
