Urine Test

I received this email from a friend and not sure if this is a true story, but the concept is worth debating. Take it away from here folks. The ACLU would lay down in front of this train if it was ever debated.

I work, they pay me.  I pay my taxes, and the government distributes my taxes as it sees fit.  In order to earn that pay check, I work on a rig site for a Fort McMurray construction project.  At any time I am required to pass a random urine test, with which I have no problem.  HOWEVER, what I do have a problem with is the distribution of my taxes to people who don't have to pass a urine test.  Shouldn't one have to pass a urine test to get a welfare check because I have to pass one to earn it for them?    Understand - I have no problem with helping people get back on their feet. I do on the other hand have a problem with helping someone sit on their ass, drink beer and smoke dope.  Could you imagine how much money this country would save if people had to pass a urine test to get a public assistance check?

Interesting argument.

I question as to whether it would save taxpayer dollars.

Why?

If they "pass" the test with tainted urine, wouldn't they qualify for SSI for rehabilitation?

What does urine testing as company policy to offset high liability insurance premiums and job site safety, in defending liability lawsuits on a construction jobsite rig have to do with being a poor person down on your luck.

Does the conservative voice always have to be, all about me selfish, and stupid. No wonder Americans are sick of their same tired song and dance.

The people obtaining the most entitlement money are typically hard core red states usually in the south.
I declare, as a New York liberal, I would love to see everyone one of my tax dollars stay right here in NYS, for subsidizing solid Republican and dirt poor Franklin County, instead of Mormon polygymists family in Utah.

This isn't an old situation or an old argument. Bums have always been able to party hardy and keep picking up welfare checks. Earthbob raises an interesting point on the SSI thing. If you are a drunk or a drug addict, you do qualify for SSI as things stand now. So either way, you are going to be able to continue the party and get paid for it. Think of all the old ladies who have to eat cat food so bums can smoke dope and make babies all night long.

Sorry, I didn't mean to be insensitive.

2:13, that's wonderful bs but I doubt we pay for too many Mormons.

SS will be broke soon anyway so I say let them have it when it's gone and the country is broke we will end it.Sooner or later the laws of nature will take over and win if the liberals like it or not.

What do you think about putting drunks on the govment payroll?

Talk about a urine test - we need a national urine test ... for surely someone higher up is smoking strong shit.

After reading this story, tell me I'm wrong.

At my blog from varous sources: US-China "War" Effort in Afghanistan?

This is absolutely ridiculous.

It simply serves to increase class warfare by pitting those who work against those who do not. There is no benefit to this type of rhetoric.

ANON 908: I cetainly hope that the reference to drunks on the "govment" payroll wasn't a slur on the good character of Sen. Ted Kennedy.

No you DO NOT collect SSI for having a drug or alcohol addiction. For a brief period of time around 1993 you could collect SSI for this, but not any more.

Alcohol is classified as a disability. You can collect for disability, as long as you don't refuse treatment. There's no rule saying it has to work. Therefore, attend programs, now and then, and drink. Collect a check.
