It could be said a historical move to gain control of the New York State Senate as it shifted in the mid term to the Republicans.
But, the Democrats want to claim the moral high ground by saying the Republicans are dealing with the devils.
Hold on a minute here, there are three Democrats who have problems:
Pedro Espada
Hiram Monserrate and
Kevin "Sluggo" Parker
All three of them should have been tossed by the Democrats, but they did not have the b@lls to it when their majority was riding on the line. Then two of the three departed their colleagues and now the Democrats cry foul.
Look at the third - he is to the right of Darrel Aubertine in this picture, Kevin "Sluggo" Parker, who should have been benched with the the other two.
Too late folks to claim the moral high ground, and they still are not smart enough, they parade out one of the three who is indicted on felony charges to stand next to the former majority leader.
Keep in mind, there are more Democrats to follow the new coalition government, only 24 of the 32 showed up for the former majority leader's press conference.
Malcolm Smith has bungled this from the start.

is big enough to take away everything you have"

Aubertine "I put people before politics"
Hey Darrel is that why you walked out like a third grader taking his bat an ball home?
Aubertine "I put people before politics"
Hey Darrel is that why you turned out the lights?
Aubertine "I put people before politics"
He Darrel is that why you were standing behind your buddy Malcom, YOUR leader who didn't see this coming?
Hey Darrel this whole thing is reminicent of how you became chairman of the legislature isn't it? What goes around, just came around.
(chuckle)
Shortly after the engineered change, a large contributor takes credit for the action.
This is Galisano's means of change?
In Albany it might have the same value as change for a quarter.
"but they did not have the b@lls to it when their majority was riding on the line'
So I assume the first order of business of the new moral big balled Republican majority will be to kick out the two crooked "Republicats".
BaaaaaaaWHAhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
This was an illegal move by the Republicans and it won't stand up.
I was impressed by Malcolm Smith at the press conference. He is a wonderful speaker and has such a command of the english language.
That would have been a good time to talk to Malcom about the Farm Workers Bill!! LMAO I am sure they will run that right up your a@* now Darrel. Good Job while you had a couple of chairs. lol
What was illegal about it. I motion was put on the floor and voted on. Just cause Malcom turned out the lights and tried to leave doesn't make it illegal.
What Malcolm did not say was the motion to adjourn was out of order. Libous had the floor and did not yield it.
Hopefully this bloodless coup d'etat will result in state government constipation and save us from their "progressive" initiatives. Hopefully no gay marriage, no gun lays that insure only criminals will have access to guns, and many other simple minded "5 borough" laws.
Anon 5:49 could not have said it better. Darrel got a taste of his own medicine except he backdoored the same people who made him Chairman. "politics before the people"
None of us, whatever our party affiliation, should be happy about what is going on. New York has significant issues that must be addressed and this fiasco doesn't get us any closer to doing that. As to blame, there is certainly enough to go around and Darrel should get his fair share for playing the game with this bunch of thugs.
Here is your first photo caption;
"Look - I am sitting in the back of the bus"
AhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahAHWaaaaaaaB
Is Darrel really that stupid to stand behind those men..oh wait thats what you get when you dont even have a high school diploma
Lets talk about people before politics here....do all of you people realize what is going to happen now? Aubertine, which includes all residents in St. Lawrence, Jefferson and most of Oswego will be shunned by republicans and not receive a dime of funding for anything in his district. That means all the people who reside in his district are screwed, which means most of us will be hurt from this political move. We had a great opportunity with Aubertine as the chair of 2 powerful committees to get some good stuff done for this area, but not anymore. So IV, why dont you pose your "are we better off than we were last year" again in 1 year and see what everyones answer is then. You are a great example of the partisan politics that are ruining this state. Follow your own creed and put people before politics yourself.
IV, I know you are not stupid enough to believe that real change is actually coming. Everything will go right back to the way it use to be when GOP was in control before. And lets remember, they did not let even 1 of Aubertines bills come to the floor. Do you know what that means? Nothing will get passed for our area. I hope you realize what this really means for the North Country. I am not saying I liked how things were with the Dems in power, but we were on the right track with Aubertine gaining some leadership, now all of this is gone and so it the North Country on the radar screen. Thanks for touting this IV, you have lost your way. Change takes time and we WERE moving in the right direction for the North Country....not anymore...
6:59. Thanks, Drew, for your insight. But you should tell articulate Malcolm that "bofe" is not a word.
Aubertine "As chair of 2 powerfull committees to get some good stuff done for this area" is a joke. An ex farmer is not even standing up for the farming community. A self professed hunter is not standing up for gun rights. He has voted for higher taxes and more spending. Shall I continue? The phrase shound be Aubertine - " I put myself before people and politics"
From the Albany Times Union, this little tidbit:
Golisano Takes Credit for Coup
HIGHLIGHT: "And the whole posse was backed by billionaire Thomas Golisano, who has been conspiring with a small cadre of lawmakers to accomplish the overthrow."
Golisano, the one the DEMS were chasing to FL with his billions out of Rochester, right? So, he funds the coup, stays in NYS and funds the GOP until forever?
So, it really IS the money.

Happy about this IV????
Aubertine to Lose Hundreds of
Thousands $$ in Member Items
http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2009/06/sen_john_defrancisco_knew_for.html
People before politics my a$$.
Ah, but you forgot this little tidbit.
If the Republicans needed any final proof that the Democrats were determined to grind them into political dust, they got it yesterday morning when, after two months' delay, they were finally provided with a list of the pork-barrel "member items" they would be receiving this year.
The "split" turned out to be hugely lopsided: $76.7 million in projects for the 32 Democrats and only $8.2 million for the 30 Republicans.
GOP proposed equal staffing and resources, tell me which is better. Does one New York resident deserve more or less over another just because who they are represented by?
Why do you care about all of the republicans districts IV??...Aubertine is looking out for HIS constituents which includes you. Regardless of what is happening in the rest of the state all of that funding was going to HIS DISTRICT which includes YOU. You attack him for succumbing to downstate interests then attack him for securing more funding for HIS DISTRICT??? Consistency is key. All politics are local, and he secured that funding for LOCAL agencies and projects, now its all gone and all those local agencies and projects will lose that funding...are you happy about that just because the rest of the state will benefit?? I dont care how unfair it is, all I care about is where I live. You obviously dont.
Is it true Darrel doesnt have even a high school diploma? That is pitiful!
And one more point IV....the republicans had how many years to make equal staffing allotments and equal member item allotments and NEVER DID...now all of a sudden they are the party of reform...give me a break...NOTHING IS GOING TO CHANGE and if you believe it is then you have your blinders on, but I dont believe you think anything is going to change, you just cant stop drinking the partisan kool-aid.
THESE ORGANIZATIONS ARE IN JEOPARDY OF LOOSING THEIR FUNDING, BUT IV IS STICKING UP FOR REPUBLICAN SENATORS IN BUFFALO, NIAGRA, AND EVEN LONG ISLAND:
$200,000 for North Country Children's Home
$100,000 for Samaritan Keep Home
$100,000 for Michaud Residential Health Services in Fulton
$105,000 for farm programs
$50,000 for economic development
$85,000 for libraries
$70,000 for health care
$324,000 for 15 municipalities and 4 fire departments, including Pamelia, Parish, Oswego, Plessis, Three Mile Bay
$210,000 aggregate for organizations that help children and families, including $10,00 for Urban Mission and $30,000 for Victims Assistance Center
$75,000 for parks, including $20,000 for Thompson Park Zoo
BOO HOO, REPUBLICANS DIDNT GET EQUAL MEMBER ITEM ALLOTMENTS JUST AS DEMOCRATS DIDNT WHEN REPUBLICANS WERE IN CONTROL....WHO CARES!!! OUR LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS ARE LOOSING FUNDING BECAUSE OF THE REPUBLICANS POLITICAL POWER PLAY...YOU SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF YOURSELF IV....WHY DONT YOU TELL THESE ORGANIZATIONS THEY ARE LOOSING THEIR FUNDING BECAUSE YOUR PARTY HAD TO MAKE A POLITICAL MOVE FOR POWER (AND NOT REFORM) IN ALBANY...SEE HOW THEY LIKE THAT, I AM SURE THEY WILL BE FINE WHEN YOU TELL THEM THAT ITS OKAY, BECAUSE REPUBLICANS DIDNT GET AS MUCH MEMBER ITEM MONEY AS THE DEMOCRATS DID...
For a caption; "He’s one of us"
If he didn't graduate high school it' probably because he "bought the farm at 17" in order to dodge the draft.
I'm with that 10:08 guy/girl/gay/transgender or whatever he/she might be. We had a great chance to GET MORE STUFF. Now, there's a good chance we won't get AS MUCH STUFF as we could have gotten before all this took place. I say this stinks. STUFF is the answer, and we need STUFF. Who gives a darn about the other guy's STUFF. Whether he gets
STUFF or not is his problem, and if he doesn't like it, he can STUFF it.
Pass the STUFF, I mean the popcorn.
Anon 1:09 All you can think about is having your hand out. If Albany would quit spending and taxing, we would not need all of the graft they try to send at us to buy votes. I for one don't want Albany's money. Leave us alone and we will help our own. Remember all the money sent at Darrel or anyone else has a price tag.
IV..darrel didnt graduate from high school?
Number one, lets get off the high school diploma stuff. At this point what does it matter, and it just sounds mean spirited. Besides there are enough legitimate reasons to oppose Darrel, lets not pick up on idiotic ones like that.(And he wouldn't have had to buy the farm to avoid the draft 2:29. Just working on the family farm would have covered him)
Number two. After reading the litany of organizations that will now be deprived of funds, I say GREAT!. Most, if not all, are a waste of money, another layer of welfare that only affects a segment of our population that already is at the trough too much. My wish would be that EVERY district in the state received similar cuts, and perhaps this state would be financially viable and livable again.
Hey 2:54...have you considered the amount of jobs these organizations support? If they lost the funding that would mean more people on welfare and unemployment...not a great argument.
2:40....the Senate republicans had their hand out to the highest bidder, who just so happened to be Tom Golisano....what do you say about that move?
UPDATE2: Another would-be NY-23 candidate is in the Capitol today:
Matt Doheny, a former Manhattan attorney who was raised in the district and still owns a home in Watertown.
Doheny is meeting with GOP leaders and has expressed his interest in running for McHugh's seat. He has opened a campaign committee, seeded with $250,000 of his own money, and is reportedly willing to spend a lot more. Doheny has put together a team to assist him, including lobbyist John Cordo (the two were Cornell Law rommies), former state GOP attorney Jeff Buley and and former state GOP Executive Director Brendan Quinn
Big Money to Buy Big Name?
Just what we need, right?
NAME, FAME, and (of course) FORTUNE...
But, he has a house in Watertown? Hell, that outta do it, then?
~ dmf
Hey 3:17, I checked that list and they do not seem too labor intensive to me. (Volunteer fire fighters arent paid and their departments have too many toys as it is) The organizations that do have a few employees (Sam Keep, NCCC, etc, could find alternative sources for income, maybe charge the people who actually use their services a small fee (shock! where will the beer and cigarette money come from if that happens?), or just shed a few jobs. When did it become the state's job to provide employment for the masses. Look again at the list and you will find that the majority of it is fluff that we do not even really need.
1:09 -- Why don't you learn how to spell?
And BTW, if you press on that CAPS LOCK key again, you will be able to type in lowercase and not appear to be just another crazy peson who happens to work for Sen. Aubertine.
So, let's get this straight: Darrel gets $1.2 Million to spend on pet projects outside the budget process and with no oversight or public comment?
Sure, they may be worthy groups, but is this Darrel's idea of good government?
What do you mean forget about him not graduating from high school. Look you can get away without it to a certain point but we have all seen that he is in over his head in the senate. Now he wants to be congress..you have to be kidding me!
You know, if this is true, that Darrell didn't graduate from HS, I'm not sure it matters to me, and I'm probably someone who could honestly be called an extreme skeptic about the donkeys. I don't trust or like big government.
I don't know Darrell personally, even though I've spoken with him more than once and have met him more than once in person. Some of the smartest, wisest people I know graduated from 10th grade. Some of the dumbest have graduate degrees. I do not know the circumstances Darrell faced when he grew up, and these likely dictated what kind of formal education he received. His experiences can also mean more than classroom time. The Chinese have a saying, "it is better to travel 10,000 miles than to read 10,000 books". I am not in a position to pass judgement on Sen A's intellect.
I should also say I have a graduate degree. The smartest person I ever met was also the oldest. I'm sure that was just a coincidence.
Pathetic
So far, the high school issue is hearsay, as no one has cited a source....
I am so excited the repubs have the b@lls to throw out monserrate and espada arent you IV?
Anon 10:46- You have no facts in your statement do some research first moron.
IV why do you let people write Aubertine doesnt have a HS diploma? You know it is false because when he kicked your a$$ in 04 you said he didnt have a diploma from HS. I believe i witnessed him stick his diploma in your face at a debate. You should be a man and step up and shoot down the people who created this lie. Oh yeah you are not a man.
7:49 I am the man who is Pathetic. And if these loose lips on this board continue to credit others with my rightful place in the world, revenge will be in order. Dan the man bestowed on me the moniker of Pathetic. Do make the mistake of understimating the power an infuence of Pathetic community. I plan to lead the power of the Pathetical party back to its deserved place here in ny.At lease our party will have experience admitting how pathetic they are, and will not build their party on lies, pay offs, alliances of crinimals, and bribes from those seeks gov contracts. These weasels will have no success against an army of determined and focused pathetics.
"You know it is false because when he kicked your a$$ in 04 you said he didnt have a diploma from HS"
PIV censored one of my posts because he said my facts were incorrect. Of course, the post was about him.
BaaaaWHAhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
I've been giving this more thought now that the shock has worn off and anger has set in with most of the public (not the party hacks, but the public in general).
A coup of this sort, if it's a really a "coup" probably is probably illegal in our country and under our system of democracy in our republican nation.
Time will tell ... coup? Aren't they reserved for banana republics?
I thought so - pass the bananas, please, I guess?
~ dmf
Nationalization of businesses. Push to prosecute and jail the previous adminstration. Government in secrecy.
I agree with Dan. Banana Republic it is.
This race is little different than '04 kid. We're talking Congress. Just picture Darrel in a debate discussing foreign policy.
Dan, it's illegal to vote for a change in leadership? I don't follow. Are you suggesting these guys can't vote for anyone other than the party line leadership tells them to?
Don't lose hope. You never know how things work out. We could be back to one party rule much sooner than you think.
Darrel said he would support support the farmers, lol. He also said he would support the hunters and sportsmen of the North Country. Republicans gained control JUST IN TIME or we would be renewing our pistol permits every 5 years. Which is more legislation by NYC Dems. taking the guns from those that obtain guns legally and placing them in the hands of criminals. Secondly think of the cost associated with the re-pplication.
thank you
Polyinformation
Anon 5:46 -- Vote for a change in leadership illegal? I didn't say that - but voting for leadership change as the legislative year is nearly done, under the cover of who knows why and labeled by many as a "coup" seems to me to be illegal... under our system, "coups" per se, I'd think would be illegal.
But, that's not my call, but it seems to be your opinion.
~ dmf
So they can only vote to change leadership at certain times of the year, Dan? And anything they do musn't be labeled a "coup" by anyone, media included?
C'mon Dan, you're reaching. I'll agree the entire system stinks, but you're the one jumping to the level of calling it illegal. This is what we get when the only thing that matters, to us and to them, is whether they are Reps or Donkeys.
Anon 8:01: We don't know exactly or precisely what billionaire Golisano offered those two DEMS for them to jump ship and to gain their "so-called loyalty?"
I demand a full-fledged
investigation by whom I don't know - but IMHO, one is now needed.
Now Dan, who is it that should do this investigation that you propose? I can promise you, if the Donkeys ran the investigation, they would find something big. The Reps would find nothing at all. So what would it prove? We can trust nothing our government gives us. It's all partisanship.
I'm serious. We would be better off if we went to the Hitchin' Post late on Sat night, picked a guy that looked about medium sober, and made him King of NY. He would be more trustworthy than any of these clowns in Albany. He/she could be King, but only until next Saturday night.
The Pork King of the Senate is none other than Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno. Bruno will have $4,211,000.00 in member items distributed to his district (and others, I'm sure) this fiscal year.
The Democrats top ranked Pork King is Sen. Carl Kruger, who will have $850,000 in member items for fiscal year 2008-09. Kruger came in 34th overall among "porkers," with the top 33 spots occupied by Republicans.
Here is a list of the top five Senate "Kings of Pork."
Legislator Total Amount Of Member Items
Joseph Bruno $4,211,000.00
Dean Skelos $3,740,000.00
Tom Libous $3,497,000.00

What point are you trying to make, 8:57 and 8:09? I'll give you one thing. At least you are comparing apples to apples. These are Senate numbers. The Elephants have been in control of the Senate for a long time. Are you surprised that Bruno is king spender in the Senate? If you go to the Assembly, you'd find our King to be Shelly no doubt. He's the thug of the moment, or at least he has been since '76 I believe.
The point is you are making no point at all. You correctly not that these guys bribe us with our own money, but we like it that way. That's the way business is done, and more on the national level than ever before as well. I'm with ya on your concern, but don't get all moral with us unless you're going to hammer both sides.
Sorry, I need to do a Wiley.
I'm so happy the Y and the City of Watertown found a way to spend some money on a great project to make things wonderful for all of us. I'm sure it won't cost anything. I'm sure it's a good expenditure of funds. I'm sure grateful for the assistance of all involved. And I'm so glad we spent the money before some a..hole from Long Island in the wrong party could get their hands on it.
9:32- I am hammering the whole skeevy process. Recently, the Dem/Rep division of member items was brought up as an unequal unfair split, including by PIV at 12:39. The Dems' point has been that they finally got theirs, and they are going to spend it. MY point is that politics as usual is front and center, and s-karew the NY citizen. I am not a backstabber, or even extremely partisan, I look to concentrate on what moves us forward, whether it's as a community or a state. Some people thrive on contentiousness and getting their way exclusively, roadblocking the opposition. I'd rather spend my time finding common ground. No side is right all the time.
Ed 8:09
It looks like you might get your wish sooner than you think, Dan. At least one of those two bad Senators are now looking like they are going to be good Senators again and we will be back to one party rule lickey split.
I was hoping the party would last a little longer.
I still contend that "coups" per se are illegal under our system, per se... the court rules today... we shall see.
~ dmf
Yup, if independent thought by legislators is not illegal, it ought to be made illegal.
Geeesh. Donkey at heart, eh Dan?
Again, don't worry. Count up the Reps and the Dems on the judges panels that will be hearing these cases. Even this will be decided on party lines. Don't worry your pretty little head.
What independent thought? This is bought and paid for thought by Golisano.Dan's right onthis.
No disagreement here. One party rule should be preserved at all costs. I don't care who is paying for it. Unisonship is at stake, especially here in the Empire State. Anything that threatens the continuation of party control should be stamped out immediately. Party, my party.
and i'm sure if the change was going the other way you would be fine with it, party thinker that you are
