Adrenaline Shot

Local governments just received a boost in their sales tax collection with the summer cash for clunkers program.

AP covers the story of how the clunkers program boosted not only car sales, but state and local governments sales tax collections, here.

Government debt to boost government revenue, you might say that works, right? In reality the clunkers program actually does little for local government but buy a little time before they must face the inevitable.

What a negative person you are. Send the money back to the people who bought the cars if you don't like it.
Unbelievable!

My business suggests that the millions of clunkers that came off the market will have a negative $2.3 B impact in lost tire, battery, and repair revenue over the next year. That would include sales tax revenue for various entities. Who really made out in this deal?

I have to wonder if the Govt. program has a program to help the folks who bought the cars pay for them if they have hard times.

Hey, stop being so cynical: it helped TOYOTA, didn't it? You betcha'... (talk about cynicism)

And, now the big three (at least GM) is doing a booming business in China with gas guzzlers (to add more pollution).

Think I'm lying... take a gander.

Gas guzzlers a big hit in China

State-controlled gas, doncha' know?

Dannie's right.

And 11:08, the program is nothing more than another loan. When you get the money for a loan, are you supposed to celebrate? That's the mindset that has gotten us into this mess. Loans have a cost.

Only one letter to the editor published today in the WDT - from me.

Stop the big outside money

I'm done now.

7:09 -- it must really pain you to know I am more tuned to issues and concerned about things than you are and with more skill, too.

... but you keep at it; change doesn't come easily!
