Breaking News (Updated)

Siena Research Institute polling for the 23rd Congressional District to be released this morning will show Dede Scozzafava down by 4 points. That represents an 11 point swing from a recent poll that showed her 7 points up.

Frankly, as much as she is being attacked it is no wonder she is not down double digits.

Dede needs to fight back!

Update:
By a margin of 29-12, those who've seen a Scozzafava commercial say the spots make them less likely to support her, while a small plurality of those who have seen an Owens ad say it made them more likely to pull the lever for him.

Is this what the electorate is reduced to, who they will pull a lever for based a commercial?

Dede is done! The question is after her loss will she become a DEM?

Anonymous said...

Of course she will. Why would she want to remain with the GOP? Either that or she will be primaried for her assembly seat in 2010.

I wonder if these Hoffman supporters realize that there is no way he can win, that he is simply a spoiler. So that by voting for him, they are helping to assure an Owens, and ultimately a Pelosi?Obama victory. Isn't it ironic that they rail for "values", yet are being duped into essentially voting for their enemies.

Its not just about winning for winnings sake. We all have values and beliefs. The GOP has certain core values. Dede is not a republican, common. I have been a republican all my life and have been pretty open minded. In 2010 we will take a out Owens with a candidate such as that Matt Doheny, he is someone that has the right message, the right values, and also resources. Dont ever give up your values and beliefs for the sake of winning!

SO WHAT!!! DEDE is basically a yes vote too. The RNC needs to get their shit together and stop giving us dems and expect us to support them. The RINO is the reason we are in exile. The country is going down in flames on a dem watch may as well be unanimous.

Oh, I'm sorry. I seem to remember an old Republican party that had a vibrant liberal, moderate, as well as a conservative wing. A real party, not just a fringe group that will be relegated to third party/ regional party status if it keeps on this path. Seems we were a lot better at winning elections in the old Javits, Rockefeller,Dewey, Nixon, Goldwater, Reagan days. And it wasn't just winning for winnings sake. Look at what got accomplished in those years: the Thruway, the SUNY system, TAP grants for college students, things that made a difference in people's lives.

Oh Matt has the right message??? For all you Hoffman supports Matt was also pro choice. I don't understand how voters are giving the edge to Owens on issues when no one know where he stands on them. He won't take a stand on anything. People need to wake up or you are going to be in for years of hell with either of these two guys.

Anonymous said...

Matt may be pro choice but he is against gay marriage. BUT most of all he is a fiscal conservative!

Dede votes 95% of the time with the GOP and she is not a fiscal conservative?

Dede will go to work for her brother, I am glad Hoffman will act as a spoiler , isn't congress corrupt enough -do we really need more of the same --Scozzafava is as corrupt as they come perhaps instead of being a big fish in a small pond her family can steal from a lorged pond Seaway Valley Corruption Corp. None of the candidates is a good candidate we are again left with poor representation or representation by the corrupt greedy liberal needy

Dede should drop out now

Add insult to insult...

From the Hill.com Extract:

"The Hoffman campaign is a real revolt against the Republican establishment and leadership, not just in New York but nationally,” said a conservative GOP congressman, adding that Scozzafava’s candidacy “could set off a civil war inside the Republican Party.”

North-South? Red-Blue? Blue-Gray? What the hell we talking about here?

LOL LOL

What a fiasco. With Aubertine out of the race this should have been a lock for the republicans. Instead we find ourselves underfunded in a 3 party race. If only the county reps had had the sense to see this coming they could have nominated Doheny to run instead of Dede. He avoids all of the problems that are currently tripping her up - he has high energy, is well-funded, and is conservative enough to satisfy the far right. Hoffman wouldn't have even been in the race. It is hard to believe that a republican will no longer be holding the seat for the 23rd district, although what could we have expected when the republicans didn't even put a republican on the ticket in the first place. I think this is the end of the line for Dede. With any luck Doheny will run against Owens next year and we can get the seat back.

1:31 -- fear not my friend, an INDY (not yet a DEM) will represent you just fine -- just ask him. His next slick expenseive Ad may clarify that for you (your worries).

Hoffman is in it to win it. I was driving out Court Street yesterday after work and saw about 15 people out waving signs for him and saw an office opened also.

With people on the ground and the TV and radio spots. I believe Hoffman will win so were actually represented by a REAL REPUBLICAN.

i like Dede but she is sinking - and sinking fast. These numbers will make even harder for her to fundraise. Dede's base of support has plumetted in st. lawrence, jefferson and lewis counties (though she still leads there.)

Her only chance is to somehow self-finance. Otherwise not only is dede headed for defeat but she'll look so vulnerable that she'll face strong primary challenge for her assembly seat.

9:03, matt doheny has the "right resources". So money should be the determining factor? Sorry but we do not need (nor do I see many voters voting for) a nyc banker from wall street who abandoned the north country. I find it offensive to assume that we need to import representation, when we already have some fine and qualified people.

Anonymous said...

2:53 - Yeah you may want to wake the fuck up and see that Dede is getting out spent 12 to 1. So resources are essential along with the right candidate and message. And you are just wrong on Doheny. He is distressed investor, helping companies restructure and reemploy and has never left the north country, everything he owns is in jefferson county. I hear he has an office in downtown Watertown. Ask the Mayor. He is an example of the american dream something the north country and the next generation need to believe in. Take your blinders off. You are clueless

Anonymous said...

..."her only chance is to somehow self-finance"

What??? How? Do you even know what that means? And in the next paragraph you question whether money should be the determining factor? What do you think self-financing is??? You sound confused.

On a separate note, Matt Doheny lives and works in Watertown. Are we really going to be so insular and small town as to think that people should never leave the district, ever? Perhaps our reliance on people with such little outside perspective is the reason why the district is struggling so much. How about we try to evaluate candidates for their intelligence and beliefs for a change. Everyone was so quick to dismiss Doheny because he was successful and and "outsider" (even though he grew up in A-Bay, spent every summer there and now lives in Watertown) and look where that has left us, with a dead end candidate in what should have been a slam dunk election. Financial success should be a positive attribute for a candidate, but for some inexplicable reason people in this district think it is a negative. I just don't get it. Perhaps our fear and rejection of success is a self-fulfilling prophesy.

2:53pm - actually the statement was: "Matt Doheny, he is someone that has the RIGHT MESSAGE, the RIGHT VALUES, and ALSO RESOURCES". So no, it is not all about money - the right message and values are essential. However I think the sinking ship Dede is currently sailing is proof that candidates need money to win. Wake up. This is the real world, not fantasy land.

To all the clueless blockheads who have been posting before me: DOHENY IS NOT ON THE BALLOT!!! Get over it, jeesh!

For those who don't like Dede and lean to toward the idiot Conservative Party (you know the one who always endorsed Pataki even when he took a major left turn...but then again Chairman Mike Long's space cadet daughter had a cushy job in the Pataki adminstration - no quid pro quo there!), I have two words for you: Ross Perot.

You're the same idiots who voted for Perot because you were pissed at Bush I for raising taxes. Perot stole enough of your uninformed votes that we got eight years of Bilary Clinton.

Smart move that was on your part!

Do us all a favor and just don't vote. You don't know what the frig you're doing anyway.

"Is this what the electorate is reduced to, who they will pull a lever for based a commercial?" It's what I call the evangelical dumbing down of the GOP. I think Goldwater said it best when he observed that every good Christian should kick Jerry Falwell in the ass.

Yes, this is how stupid the voters have become. This is how we end up with the system we have, with the leaders we have.

The mess that is NY is now a national mess. Obama wins.

NOPE! funny what a mere 5% will do aint it?

Anonymous said...

I think the voters are tryign to tell the GOP....next time nominate a person who have conserative values.

Anonymous said...

All you North country Wa-Hoos are shooting yourselves in the foot. Another Democrat Congressman in the state? Good Lord, don't you see what is happening? If you are a conservative, like me, you've got to choose your poison. Notice Dede got NRA support? Think about Owens vote from liberal New York when Pelosi goes for full registration or worse-ban on private ownership of guns?

Anonymous said...

Hey 5:31 pm post. My question to you is, why do all the republicans come begging for the Conservative Party endorsement if they are a bunch of idiots? I think the host of this blog,a huge Dede supporter, is on the conservative line this fall. Maybe you have no values or just do not care who represents you as long as they have an R after their name. Let's face it, we have Dede and Owens who are both out of the same mold and people are tired of it. I am not here to bash any candidate but, rather look at the facts. If you can find one thing that Owens and Dede disagree on, that is documented, show me. I believe the only candidate that has differing beliefs is the Conservative candidate. Blame this on the GOP. They can't rid themselves of the RINO's and will continue to shoot themselves in the foot.

The word going around is she is not going to be attending the dinner tonight in the bay??? Bad choice because if she doesnt have her home base with her there is no chance. And we all saw the polls yesterday she is losing even her supporters here in the immediate north country that she has represented for years.
Dede is done! The county chairs, NRCC and Dede failed on this one and they need to pay the price. All the heads should roll! Dede will now probably become a democrat as an assemblywoman or she will be primaried in 2010!

I dont want to say i told you so but i told you so..Doheny for Congress 2010

Anonymous said...

Yup - "Hey, just call her dead in the water."

Newt Gingrich - give me a break. I thought he was dead. Hey - what a coincidence :-)

Doheny: Dede's backup... call NYC and get him back up here - now and bring his checkbook, too.

Anonymous said...

dd needs to bow out. the non payment of employment taxes which in effect does not belong to the employer and is stolen money if not paid when required is one of many reasons she is the wrong choice. jbro

Anonymous said...

Hey Dan - Doheny doesn't live in New York. For the last time...HE LIVES AND WORKS IN WATERTOWN FULL TIME! I guess his temporary residence in New York City is the only thing people have to complain about him. Too bad he isn't in the race. Things would be very different.

Hey, since when does paying taxes have anything to do with anything?

Timmy Greitner, the boy who runs the IRS and was greatly responsible for the AIG failure, evaded paying taxes. The Great One thought it was just fine.

Charly Strangle, lifetime crook and Democratic block leader for years and years, owes a whole bunches in back taxes. We respond by having him write new tax laws for you dimwits who go to work all the time to pays your taxes. Pelosi thinks that's just fine. The Dem party likes the man. You should too.

So shut the hell up about anybody and their taxes. It's not an issue for those people who are in control and are important members of this great nation. Idiot.

I hate to bust your bubble but I think Dede is going to win this. Who ever started this blog is a dork and is trying to get people going. We will wait and see the out come. Good luck to you Dems but I think we will win........

Well Rah Rah, Mark. I kind of hope she does too. But what difference does it really make? We have wasted a once great country by spending money we don't have. I don'ts think a few fringe changes will make much of a difference. The Rangle and Geitner types, and the acceptance of them, is the real problem.
