Face Reality

Dede Scozzafava's spokesperson and campaign people need a good dose of reality, stop the whining and run a campaign.

The statement they issued (here) prior to the release of the Siena poll is attempting to brace people for something they are not prepared to deal with in reality - it will be closer than they like.
"Since John McHugh's confirmation, Dede has been under constant attack by her opponents and their special-interest backers;

Dede's opponents and their supporters have already aired hundreds-of-thousands of dollars of television advertisements;"

Ok, so what is their point? That is how campaigns are run; you promote yourself and attack your opponent or preferably their positions. If the opponent is controlling the message and your poll numbers are closer than they would like, then do something about it, CONTROL THE MESSAGE!

The people in the Scozzafava campaign need to drop their training wheels and start running a campaign.

You claim people like PIV are the problem with the party but you have a simple one track mind when you come to party politics; abortion and gay rights. It is intolerant people like you who ruin the party. The Republican party needs to have broader vision.

No, conservatives need to stand up for what they believe in. Abortion is murder, and can't be tolerated. I could care less about gay marriage one way or another.
Unfortunately, the Democratic candidate is going to win this election because the Republicans have abandoned true conservatives.

I am a conservative republican and will personally not vote for Dede. Just like in the presidential election, I am once again disappointed in our choices for this race. I am also disappointed in the republican committee for choosing Dede. She is as liberal as they go and should not even be labeled republican. I wish the state of NY would allow a primary for special elections so we could have more of a choice than the 3 that are thrown at us. I really don't know who I'm going to vote for if any. Maybe I'll just write my own name down.

I just don't get the hand-wringing over this election. John McHugh was a moderate Republican, and everybody loved him. Never had a serious challenge the whole time he was in office. Why do some want to replace him with a Tom DeLay/ Jesse Helms type instead of the moderate that would more accurately represent the majority of the people in this district? Go DeDe!!

Dede and her "staff" are imcompentant. All those 11 county and chairs and committemen were so ignorant and wrong in choosing her. Owens will unfortunately win

Yesterday IV posted: "They [Dems] eat their own," maybe but the GOP kills, eats and then hides the remains of their own and it's about to happen here ... and it's just as ugly.

This string of attacks on Dede is more than from the DEMS... assuming all the Anonymous posters are GOPers, LOL LOL

And, just think how some "Anonymous" posters hit on me...

Dede is very competent, as is her staff. Asking the people in the North Country who they would trust probably lead to her selection. She has actually helped so many people, even those outside her district, that I am surprised by the vitriol I see from Repubs/Conservatives. Not RTL though. They openly declare themselves to be one-issue voters.

"John McHugh was a moderate Republican, and everybody loved him'

BULL$HIT! There was nothing moderate about John McHugh during the days of G. Bush. His moderation was an invention as President OBama was deciding to choose him as his Secretary of Army. Which, by the way was a very good choice. But his moderation came with the change in the Presidency. Be real. Dede is not moderate, she is liberal.

12:54 You don't know what your talking about. The New York delegation (of which McHugh was a member, along with the Houghtons, Staffords, etc) was always known as a more moderate wing of the party. John could hardly be compared to the fire and brimstone of a Tom DeLay and his ilk. And if DeDe is so liberal, how come she voted along party lines 95% of the time. Don't just swallow what the kooky Hoffman (Long) people feed you. Become a thinker!

Anonymous said...

"12:54 You don't know what your talking about."

He voted with them 97% of the time. He never spoke against them. Give me one link to proof that John McHugh ever opposed any of their wacky ideas. You have early onset.

"John could hardly be compared to the fire and brimstone of a Tom DeLay and his ilk."

Welcome to the wacky world of NC Repukes. These are the same guys who voiced no objection to John McHugh being blocked for several months by their own friggin party. Welcome to the screwed up North County Republicans.

I am a Democrat and I was proud to have Congressman McHugh selected to serve our President as Sec. of the Army. When the Republicans said NO and blocked his nomination I did not see any objection from you PIV. Now I understand as you have decided to throw conservatism aside with your support of Dede.

One of the reasons I am a Republican is that I am not into killing babies. The one thing that all republicans agree upon and the GOP of the 23rd. cast it aside.
Hoffman or stay home. That is the only choice.

Most people around here, and I hope you don't take this the wrong way, would "rather slit their wrists than pull the level for a DEM in most races (they say)," except (in reality) when that DEM is:

(1) a good old boy or gal (or "one of us");

(2) liked for personality (mostly - hoping they will do a good job if elected), and they run and spew the standard lines about the standard catchy issues:
cut taxes, create jobs, and reduce size of government (which once they get in office, they never do);

or (3) appear slightly on the conservative side in speech (but seldom in deeds).

Why? Because liberal programs and stuff are what we mostly need and get around here anyway in the final analysis. We gripe about it; but accept it and get along with it anyway.

I know, I know, there he goes again spouting the truth like a DEM.

LOL

There are many pro-life Democrats as well as pro-choice Republicans, so it is not "the one thing that all republicans agree upon" . Not that it is even germaine to this congressional race, but abortion is not a Republican or a Democratic issue. In fact the grandfather of conservative Republicans, Barry Goldwater was pro-choice.

Anonymous said...

Dan Francis is wrong. A lot of people around here pull the handle for a Dem. That is how Senator Aubertine got elected many times. He one once beat a Republican Scott Gray 2 to 1.

I do not think many of you understand that it is more than the abortion and gay marriage stand with DeDe. Her ties to the ACCORN/BIG UNION/WORKING FAMILY PARTY is scary. If she was serious about trying to be a conservative republican she should have stayed as far away, from the above mentioned ties, as she could. Also, if you want to make changes in Washington you don't do it with a mid to liberal person from the New York State Legislature which could be more screwed up than Washington.

Anonymous said...

"Her ties to the ACCORN(sic)/BIG UNION/WORKING FAMILY PARTY is scary". I suggest you stop being such a chicken. There is nothing to this ACORN canard other than she was endorsed by the WFP in the past. Despite what Hoffman says ACORN is not the WFP. As far as the unions go, the big ones here traditionally supported Martin, McHugh, Nortz, Wright et al, and no one complained then. In any event it looks like Owens has the lock on those endorsements anyway (SEIU). I would bank on her experience and political savvy much more than some unknown, untested man who has already proven he is not a man of his word.(Hoffman).

4:32... go back and read my post, everything after this phrase I posted.... you can read, right?

"... except (in reality) when that DEM is:"

Got it now... (hint: your post agrees with me: "he's one of us" played in the good old boy category).

6:15, The NYS legislture "could be more screwed up thn washington." I don't think could is the right word, nys is unmatched when it comes to political disfunction.

Danny M. Francis (Eyepublius) said...

8:58 and all others. You want irony and really screwed up? Ponder this.

1. Sen. Max Baucus (D-MT) does not like a Public Health Care Option per se.

2. There are proposals that if those without insurance don't buy private care, then they will have to pay a fine...

Okay ... (now stay with me on this) --

Say they don't pay the fine, and the fine builds up, up, up and up ... until finally they are sentenced to jail for say 90 days, or pay up.

Guess what everyone in jail gets?

FREE PUBLIC HEALTH CARE...

And, some here say I'm all wet on my views...

you ARE all wet, Dan. Give Mitt Romney a call and he'll explain that health plan to you -- it's in service in Massachusetts

6:54 That is untrue. The WFP is one of the many tentacle orginizations of acorn. We now know who has been funneling them money under the radar while the heat is on.FEMA gave acorn 1 million for fire fighting.Ever hear of such crap?Only the dems could think this one up. more to come on this.

Danny M. Francis (Eyepublius) said...

4:09 - I'll call him, when you call the people there and ask them about "Mass-care" to see if they like it or not and especially who it covers (is for or not for) and the overall cost:

MassCare

You can't have it both ways (for this kind of care before you are against this kind of care)...

I wonder: will Guv Paterson get credit for this reform effort?

Good Reform or Not?

I think it's long overdue.

Hey 6:54 post,
You must be one of those politicians that was told you have to figure out how to compromise before you can run for office.
I have heard it a million times from RINO's. "Start by being on the planning board then the Town Council, then Supervisor and by that time you can run for an important office if you are a good politician." You just dont get it.
That is the problem with government , you have to be corrupt before you get there. TERM LIMITS AND THROW THE BUMS OUT!!!

Anonymous said...

Who cares about any of this? With redistricting it won't matter who wins. This part of the country will continue to rot any way you look at it. The only way we can save ourselves is to do what Dannie says, implement as many government programs as possible. That's what we've been doing, and see how much better things have gotten?

Anonymous said...

4:19 A million times!? You must be someone important. Just to let you know, we already have a term limit system , and they are called ELECTIONS. In a free country, why should we restrict a person's right to run for public office, and punish them for being successful. "That is the problem with government , you have to be corrupt before you get there." If you are really that jaded, do everyone a favor and stay home on election day. Or move to Europe.

Correction: I meant anon 3:30 not 4:19. sorry

I was gonna say. I gots me a state job and I'm paid by the taxpayers. Why would I ever want to leave the Empire State? Every time we tell you we had to do "more with less" and live with "budget cuts" the papers print it and you believe it. Nah, this is paradise. With the Great One, our entire nation will now be transformed into one big dreamland. Me be happy boy.

Who is drawing the redist. lines makes a big difference. That power has to and will be taken away from the dems. They were immediately drunk with power in 08 and are now blowing it bigtime just like the repugs did. It's time to give the hardcore conservatives a chance at the wheel this madness from both parties has to stop!
