Darrel Defection ? You Betcha

Darrel Aubertine defecting to the coalition government?

Albany is abuzz with a rumor that Darrel Aubertine is making moves to join the Republican-led Senate leadership coalition and end the stalemate that’s paralyzed state government.

Capital Tonight was the first to Twitter about the possibility of an Aubertine defection, but the signs have been there for days.

But it may be more than just a rumor.

Aubertine approached GOP leaders earlier today to request that his bill extending the state’s Power for Jobs program be included in the bipartisan list of bills that the coalition had hoped to take up if they could convince even some Democrats to end their boycott and show up for session.

According to a well-placed Albany source, that’s exactly what Aubertine committed to do, enabling the coalition to complete its business and thwarted efforts by his fellow Democrats to continue to disrupt government.
At least that was the plan until Democrat leader John Sampson caught wind of the plan and made who-knows-what threats and/or promises to keep Aubertine on the reservation.

It’s not been clear where Aubertine stands on the new Senate Democrat leadership.

In the wake of last week’s surprise power shift, Aubertine stood directly behind the dethroned Malcolm Smith at a press conference called to denounce the event.

On Thursday, he was insisting that Smith’s leadership was still secure, and that Smith was so confident, he still planned to attend Friday’s Jefferson County Democrat dinner (he didn’t).

Aubertine skipped Friday’s emergency meeting that anointed Sampson as the new leader and was one of only two Democrats who failed to show up at the coronation press conference Monday.
All signs of disapproval of his colleagues maneuvers in the aftermath of their historic defeat?

It would be good if Darrel showed some backbone and told the Democrats to get there head out of there butts. To quote a past mantra "It’s the Economy Stupid" New York is burning while Paterson and Democrats fiddle worrying about social issues.

Darrel seems interested in only what's good for Darrel.

Darrel should set up and join them. At least so they can vote on the 80 or so bills that need to be passed for small communities across the state. It don't matter if you are dem or rep these need to get passed. He would earn a lot of respect from me if he did.

The Darrel "defection to the GOP" story: in his own words, as the expression goes:

Aubertine said: I planned to give the GOP its quorum.

This is pretty startling news.

Let's see: He was against the GOP takeover (coup)/DEM defection
before he was [almost] for it, but now is against it [again]?

Is that about right?

And, to think how people used to beat up poor old John Kerry for
his, "I voted for it before I voted against it."

Folks, you can't make this shït up, really you can't.

I am quite certain that the mood of the senators planning the coup was not similar to the genteel atmosphere at the mayoral command center at Breen Ave (oh, the irony!!) Headquarters.

"HOLY Cow!"

The Senate Republicans and Democrats have an agreement!

Who would have thought they would agree on anything?

It is a first step!

Both sides agreed to pay themselves and their staffs.

The paperwork was submitted by both sides yesterday.

And they said it couldn't be done. (sarcasm)

Darrel's story: I agreed to go into session if the GOP recognized Malcolm as Majority Leader, Valesky as Temporary President and Jeff Klein as floor leader.

Isn't that the exact setup pre-GOP takeover?

And we're to believe that Skelos accepted that plan? But it was all just a misunderstanding?

This guy really is dumb.

Another deal that Darrel couldn't get done.

It was the right thing to do, but Darrel is still more concerned about his colleagues feelings and not the feelings of the electorate. Big mistake.

Anon @ 7;54, You hit the nail on the head.

Darrel should not give the Republicans their qourum. The Repubs are behaving like third world operatives and Darrel should not reward them for it.

The bottom line as I see it is this:

Aubertine's "willingness to reach across party lines and vote for whatever measure he wants passed, is commendable UNDER NORMAL conditions and circumstances." We can all agree on that and that is the right thing to do.

But, these circumstances are anything but NORMAL...

That's my point. Holding the line and keeping their powder dry and then opening fire on each other under normal debate and conditions would serve either side in lawful, legal times - these are unlawful times ...

Handshakes in the middle of the night along with wink and nod policy are NOT the way to run government at any level, period.

Mr. Aubertine was wrong to try that approach under these unlawful and "mutiny-like" conditions established by the GOP and practiced by the DEMS.

The fact is, according to the watertown times, that Darryl went to Skelos, had a deal and Skelos wouldn't follow though because they love that Espada dude

HOw come anytime Darrylll is involved in something there is a "miscommunication". We have heard this excuse too many times

This idea of "shared" government: i.e., the DEMS rule one day and the GOP the next is about the most-silly ass idea I ever heard of ... who though of that anyway?

Aubertine did?

Damn, but he's one of us, how can that be?

Sample of Shared Government

What do you think now?
