Party Up

Daily News is reporting Board of Elections commissioners were living large in the Finger Lakes last week, contrary to what Governor Paterson has requested. DN even featured a photo of Jefferson County Democratic Party Chair and Election Commissioner Sean Hennessey.

Her report in part:

Up to 180 elections commissioners and staffers wined, dined and danced under the stars last week at an annual conference in the scenic Finger Lakes.

Commissioners and employees spent four workdays at a conference at the Ramada Geneva Lake Front, which included plenty of eating, boozing, golf and touring.

All this while Gov. Paterson is urging state agencies to limit "nonessential" travel to help close the budget gap.

With Albany In Chaos, Board of Election party in Finger Lakes

Budget gaps are meaningless, right Sean?

PIV You should know, the County picks up the tab for this party not the state. I hope someone on the BOL will look over the bills carefully!

Give it a break. They deserve this type of treatment. It's not like they went to Vegas or had some spa treatment.

Wow and NYSAssociation of Counties events, that you pay dues to fund, and have the county cover expenses, is any different every February. This is Republicans and Democrats alike. Nice try.

According to the story, the county TAXPAYERS will pick up the tab for travel and expenses.

Special interest lobbyists are paying for Sean's beverages and entertainment.

Let me weigh in on this.

I don't mind if these "working" conferences are state or local (county) paid for or not.

That is not the point under
'normal fiscal times' but right now we ARE NOT in 'normal fiscal' times and to sponsor these events when everyone in govpt should be belt tightening is the point.

A lot of us are asked to tighten our personal budgets and most of us will get hit by the bad economic times (even cuts in government programs or whatever) - and then to see government at any level sponsoring these outtings - well, it's just plain wrong in these tough times.

Otherwise, I have no problem with them.

I really don't care who pays the bill, as long as it gets passed on to YOUR KIDS. Which it will.

Hennessee is a party line hack. I'm glad he's there where no one will challenge him with any independent thoughts. I wonder if he would vote to screw the future of his own kids? Looks like he has no problem with it, as long as his family gets their fair share. Which it will.

They were in meeting from 9-4 and did the work they went there for. If they go out and have a few drinks at night with there own money it shouldn't be an issue. I am sure you have been in Albany for the Association of Counties meetings. Any different?

The man who gave us Addie's Uncle for our County Leg. person.

9-4? According to the story, they were golfing, fishing, sunning themselves, boating, shopping... give it a rest.

The real "work" apparently involved trying to grope a young reporter and photographer.

Some of them may have been golfing, fishing and whatever else but there are meetings everyday. I guess the question is did ours go to the meetings or to the entertainment.
