Congressional Campaign Mailbox

Prep your mailboxes! Campaign material arrived from both GOP candidates this week which included a nice letter from Dede Scozzafava with background and bio information and a six panel, four color tri-fold brochure with his background information, a message and map of the four regional meetings.

I guess Doheny being the lesser known of the two front runners had to make a bit more impact with a mailer including a splashy picture.

But regardless of who gets style points for their mailers, both are worthy and well accomplished people which will be interesting to hear from them this Tuesday in Gouverneur before any decision of support.

Is Dede really serious? She is part of the dysfunctional Albany government, her views on the issues reveal that she is really a dem, and im very worried about Hackett's crumbling before the election.

Doheny, the "Right" candidate? What office has held? What office has he run for? Which candidate has he supported, which cause, and where?

This guy, quite simply in my view and I bet in the view of many others, is trying to buy this seat. His focus in the media on his money and not critical issues flows nicely around this region, since people have already said it will take millions to win.

And Dede has already hired an outside professional money raiser... so this outta be good.

A smart, clever, rich lawyer = just what we need more of in the government, right?

Lest, We Forget, lawyers, got us in the huge messes (torture, NSA spying and hiding the bodies of proof) where we are today (John Yoo, Jay Baybee, Steven Bradbury, Alberto Gonzales, John Ashcroft, Michael Mukasey, et al - all lawyers).

Were I to vote GOP, I could not for Mr. Dohney, or any lawyer at this stage of country's pile of messes.

how can they be meeting at plattsburgh town hall? isn't illegal for political parties to conduct campaign oriented activites on public property?

Danny, please, one last time. Stop the torture thing. The argument makes you look like a fool. As far as the NSA spying, I WANT them to listen to international calls from some tent in the damn mountains of Pakistan. This is the kind of post that makes me worry about you. Sometimes I think you have more in common with Al Franken than the average Joe.

Anon 9:38 - You want me to stop about the "Torture thing?"

My friend it is NOT a thing, it's the law of the land and internationally.

Torture (which includes water-boarding) is: Illegal, unlawful and a war crimes and has been for decades wherein the United States prosecuted war criminals.

Your attempt to belittle me on this topic is weak, very weak. Yours is an emotional view based on fear and hype: Mine is based on facts, the law, experience, and extensive knowledge.

- I know the laws and the rules and yes, I was an effective, very effective interrogator and I NEVER tortured anyone as I worked to help keep this country and you safe.

So, please do me the honor and favor of getting off my back on this issue. Whoever you are - you are flat out wrong. Why not face me like a man and 'fess up and let's have a public debate - ask JCC to sponsor a debate on detainee handling and torture and I'll gladly take the floor.

About the NSA wiretapping. I have no problem with it if IT'S done IAW the law - it was not. That much is clear.

Mr. Francis, a little a piece of advice: you are WAY too present on blogs. If you really want to be relevant, stop injecting yourself into conversations online and go out and do something productive. The one take away I have from all of your blog commentary is that you have WAY too much free time on your hands. It is a shame you can't find something more useful/productive/helpful to do with it. Try and make your mark elsewhere, like in the real world, and then, finally, people may actually start to take notice. Your self-promoting blog presence (on blogs that have absolutely nothing to do with you, I might add) is just embarrassing.

DAN FRANCIS IS THE BEST CANDIDATE FOR THE 23RD DISTRICT EVER!!!

(Thought I would throw that in since I know it is only a matter of seconds before you write it online again somewhere and I wanted to spare you the pain of having to do it yourself, again...your fingers must get tired of typing those words again and again and again and again).

I post this for the "torture thing" crowd, if any still have doubts.

Anon. 2:12 - Your are correct.

I do have a lot of time to do things, and those are things that I want to do, and not what you feel I should or should not do.

I will not stop just because you or anyone else hides behind an Anonymous label and fires at me or tries to shut me up ... I resent your approach in that regard.

You wrote in part:

1. "If you really want to be relevant, stop injecting yourself into conversations online and go out and do something productive."

I say: That, is my choice, not yours.

2. "The one take away I have from all of your blog commentary is that you have WAY too much free time on your hands. It is a shame you can't find something more useful/productive/helpful to do with it. Try and make your mark elsewhere, like in the real world, and then, finally, people may actually start to take notice."

I say: You solely judge me by my posts and not by my character or abilities.

3. "Your self-promoting blog presence (on blogs that have absolutely nothing to do with you, I might add) is just embarrassing."

I say: It may be embarrassing to you, and if so, stop reading my stuff. Then reveal yourself and maybe I'll stop being embarrassed to respond to an Anonymous poster.

Regardless of your assessment of me, I leave you with your opinion of me (which I respect) is this: You have greatly misjudged me. And, my fingers are just fine, thank you.

Dude, don't get so defensive, just listen. A good politician listens, even to criticism. He has a point. You are best known for your ridiculous blog talk. If that is how you want to be known, then keep it up, but you will continue to lose election after election. If you want to actually win an election some day, you might want to change your strategy. I say this to you as a friend.

- a different anon poster, simply because I don't want to take the time to set up a google account.

Anon 4:57 - I am not defensive in the sense you try to paint me, but I will defend myself -- there is huge difference between the two.

Even when you try to help him, he doesn't listen.

OK Dan. Torture, wiretaps, we were mean to terrorists,,,,, go for it.

One thing is for sure. Keep up the jihad on these topics and the voters will make sure you continue to have time on your hands.
