Curtain Call For June

June’s ouster completes Albany’s downstate dominance.

Which of these recent quotes can be attributed to June O’Neill, the soon-to-depart head of NY’s bruised and rudderless Democratic Party?

a. “Any speculation about changes in the party leadership is just that (speculation.)”
b. "The governor…assured me that I have his full support and confidence."
c. “I have been in close contact with Governor Paterson for the past several months about my desire to cut back on the travel and time required to continue as State Chair.”
d. All of the above.

The correct answer is, of course, (d).

For weeks, O’Neill, the last standing remnant of the Eliot Spitzer era, has been insisting she’s staying put as state chair, even as nearly everyone around her fell.

The climax was an embarrassing story in the Daily News, where O’Neill was forced to admit that she knew nothing of a move by Paterson to push her aside. That’s quote “b.”

One May 29, O’Neill’s spokesman denied there was a change afoot (quote “a”)

Today, Paterson announced that his fourth choice for the post (the first three turned him down), Long Island Democrat Chair Jay Jacobs, will step into O’Neill’s shoes.

That pretty much completes the downstate domination of state politics and governance under Democrat control.

Paterson, of course, is from Manhattan, as is his choice for “lieutenant governor,” Richard Ravitch.

The Senate is controlled by Malcolm Smith (Queens) and John Sampson (Brooklyn).

The Assembly is run by Shelly Silver (Manhattan).

The Comptroller is from Nassau County; Queens-born Andrew Cuomo is the Attorney General.

US Sen. Chuck Schumer is a Brooklyn boy, and accidental Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand has changed her stripes to more closely resemble the Upper East Side liberal crowd she favors.

PIV...You got the wrong side of the park. The liberals are on the Upper West Side. Your conservative Republicans are living on the Upper East side. If you are going to insult us, do it right.

PIV should stick to Watertown politics, Liberal Laugh.
Once he crosses the threshold leaving Pete's and gets behind the wheel of his legistlatormobile he is a bit out of his realm.

I can see the West Side Conservatives across the park from my balcony on W 93rd. Or is that Russia? No, that is near Cony Island. Oh, I am so confused

and Dean Skelos is from where?

Again, LL, if you be gonna use a name, make some funny noises. Or stick to anonymous.

Such a disappointment.

DSO and UTB, get a room.

This post mentions Sen. K. Gillibrand - today at the Sotomayor hearing she and Schumer made the formal introduction of Sotomayor.

Sen. Leahy had to tell Gillibrand to shut up as he asked he to cut her off her remarks - she still wanted more time to talk and he said no, twice - she simply was determined to rattle on and on and on ... what a blowhard she is.

Anon. 9:32.

Come on down to the big City and we will take you to the "Dinosaur" up on W. 125th have a few beers and show you what liberals are all about. You can shoot off your anonymous mouth there and see if you survive.
I would take you over to the East Side to hang with your conservative buddies, but you could not afford it.
PIV does not take to being wrong, much, does he?

Upper East Side conservatives?

Like Republican-turned-Democrat-turned-60s Liberal icon John Lindsay?

State Sen. Liz Krueger?

Perennial candidate Mark Green?

Nice try, LiberalLump. Now, go back to your room.

Hey not bad Any mouse. You came up with 3 East Side Liberals from a population area of near a half million. Ya had to dig one up, though to inflate your numbers.
But, Ya missed a live one. I will give you a hint. Mayor of a very big city and he still rides the #6 to work.

BaaaaWHAhahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

UTB, I would be very afraid to go into a small room with you and your friends. I'll pass. But thanks anyway.

Thanks for clarifying, Lumpy. But you can stop playing us Northerners as rubes.

According to the "conservative" NY Daily News, "conservative" Upper East Siders (ZIPS 10021 and 10022) contributed four times more to "conservative" Hillary Clinton's presidential campaign than to John McCain ($1.8 million vs. $470,000).

And "conservative" Barack Obama raised twice as much.

Rich? Yes.

Conservative? Right.

I believe that the real reason behind June's stepping back was to provide much needed time to recuperate from hip surgery.

LiberalLaugh did not call you rubes, Anon. that was your description. LL was simply pointing out a mistake. PIV should not be playing expert on NY City politics when he has no idea what he is talking about unless his intent is to distort information.
His statement was dead wrong. It appears that you Northern Conservative boys and girls have your own problems as we watch your Conservative and Republican grasp weaken and your skin thin.
Your reaction when you get tripped up by your own political ignorance is, as usual, to start calling LIberalLaugh by something other than his own name. That makes you feel good even perhaps like a rube, your own word.
You now have a chance to import an expert from Downstate who will go up there and show you how it is done.
You should take it. Matt Doheny has the right experience and he got it all right down here in the City. He will shape you Northerners up, bring you into the downstate fold and solidify our representation, if he wins.

LOL!!"

I could assign you a consistent name so that everyone on here would be able to keep the Anon's straight. But I assume that you prefer to remain anonymous since anonymous does not require any accountability. Since you are fond of derogatory names, how about I refer to you from now on as numbnuts? But then, that would not be fair to the innocent, so you win. You will always be known as anonymous, no consistency, no credibility and no substance. Just PIV's little troll under the bridge.

How come Shawn Henesie wasn't considered for this statewide donkey post? Self promoting, party above all else, a real screw-the- kids kinda guy. He'd be perfect for Donkey in Chief.

His time will no doubt come.

Bruised and battered Democratic party? LOL
The Dems won 13 of 14 special elections,
Defeated 6 GOP members of congress - only 3 reps
Left in NY"s 29 member delegtion, have majorities
In both legislative houses, and occupy all of
The statewide offices.
And yes, june did have a total hp replacement
On June 30th and is now getting much needed rest,
Recuperation and therapy. The democratic
Party owes her a vote of thanks. We are lucky
She will continue to be active in the #2 spot!
