It's Nice To Be #1 (At Something)

Yes, New Yorkers can hold their heads high, your government is #1.

At being dysfunctional!

Read
No. 1: New York

Leadership Problems: 10
First, Gov. Eliot Spitzer (D) acknowledged visiting high-end prostitutes and resigned. Then Spitzer's successor, David Paterson (D), acknowledged just days after being installed that he had used drugs and had extramarital affairs. And then, Paterson was widely accused of mishandling the selection of a successor to Hillary Rodham Clinton's Senate seat.

Ah, those were the good old days. For the Empire State, it's only gotten worse.
Criminality: 8
Both figures at the center of the switch in party control are dogged by legal concerns.

According to media reports, Sen. Hiram Monserrate of Queens has been indicted on felony charges of stabbing his girlfriend with a broken glass. (After initially voting with the GOP to switch control, Monserrate later decided to return to the Democratic fold.)

And Espada has been fined in the tens of thousands of dollars for failing to disclose political contributions. In addition, a nonprofit he ran, Soundview HealthCare Network, is reportedly being investigated by the state attorney general.
TOTAL DYSFUNCTIONALITY: 9.25

Wow. I a few brief paragraphs you've sullied the names of four (4) Democrats who are the pride of the party without mentioning any of the lowlifes on the opposite side of the aisle. These are our best and our brightest; and we will not stand for this type of treatment.

This is what we get with a one party state. It's only going to get worse, or funnier according to your point of view.

But, hey we may be crappy (in Albany) but the "national" level folks want to influence us locally anyway they can. Take a gander and ask: Will they succeed?" This from Roll Call:

"A highly competitive special election is pending in the 23rd district, assuming McHugh is confirmed as secretary of the Army. Aubertine appears to have the right of first refusal for the Democratic nomination, but he must make his intentions known by the end of the week — that’s the deadline local Democratic leaders have set for candidates interested in running in the special election."

GOP Looks to Tie Aubetine to Albany (Mess)

Right of first refusal - who says so?

No one knows where he stands on any critical national or international issue and apparently no one cares, either?

That aspect greatly concerns me.

This "star search, hand picking, Deal or No Deal TV-type" approach to choosing our government leaders... it darn sure didn't work for the Senate, did it?

Footnote: No one in the NYS Senate is a leader or leading, no one in my view. And, I'm sure in the view of the entire state. We must stop painting anyone that way, too!

F/U to my above post:

Local DEMS according to "reports" have given all "candidates" until the end of the week to make their intentions known ... here's what Sen. "A" said about his intention on News-10-Now:

"Aubertine says at this point he's made no decision either way, saying it would be premature for him to announce his intentions before the seat is officially vacated."

That official vacancy?

That would be when John McHugh is officially confirmed and when he officially notifies the NY Secy of State that his position is "vacant" [with a by date].

That's when it's official.

And if Aubertine runs for the Vacant seat, the heir apparant for the State senate seat is Addie, Oh No.

Wow. Dan's looking very congressional in that new mug shot. Giving up the old man-and-the-sea look, huh?

Anon 1:40 - thanks for the compliment (I think - LOL)... if one used only the WDT mug shots (they call them "head shots" if you can believe that)... everyone would look like Charles Manson or Nick Nolte.

My money's not on the WDT photographer ...

Nick Nolte Mug Shot - ouch...

Just for laughs.
