Medicaid #s

New York has the second highest health care coverage enrollment through Medicaid of all the states.

The Top:
California claims the #1 spot with 5,809,000 enrollments while New York has 3,755,000 on the rolls followed by Texas at 3,015,000, Florida at 1,745,000 and Illinois at 1,530,000.

The Bottom:
North Dakota has just 53,000 enrolled, Wyoming at 50,000 then South Dakota at 72,000, Alaska at 77,000 and New Hampshire at 79,000.

IV-

I think you need to explain your point further. Of course ND, WY, SD, AK, and NH have lower enrollments- they are the least populated states.

A quick comparison (using 2007 estimated populations) show's that 19% of NYS is on medicaid! The smaller states you mentioned range from 6% in NH to 11% in Alaska. The larger states range from 10% in FL (no surprise there) to 19% in NY. CA is 16%, and Texas is 13%.

One could assume that the large, urban population centers account for a large percentage of medicaid enrollees. Any stats on Upstate versus Downstate? Or better yet...on a per county basis?

or how about how these stats compare to poverty rates in those states? or how much coverage those people receive?

what you missed is the fact that NY is also one of the worst states in terms of how low their reimbursements are to doctors and hospitals.

other states have more comprehensive medicaid coverage, which means that it gives more actual benefit to those it covers-- making it, arguably, a better program in that it actually, you know, works.

half-assed coverage is not good coverage, no matter how many people you claim it helps.
