Good Bye

Senator Arlen Specter's move to switch parties was simply a matter of self preservation. Polls showed him behind in a GOP primary. While his move and the likely seating of Franken will move the Democrats to the magic number of 60, he is no loss for the Republicans.

Yeah, we don't need anybody, where Republicans right. We want to keep Reagans big tent all to ourselves everyone else get the hell out. For the Republicans still in the party, shape up and worry about 'De-Nacht der langen Messer'.

really? isn't he exactly the sort of moderate your party needs to hold on to to have any shot of reclaiming power?

I'm with Kermit, we have to draw the Blue Line somewhere. But losing sleep over Arlen doesn't make a lot of sense.

I don't really see this as a loss, mainly because he never stood with Republicans on anything anyway. This guy voted for that gazillion dollar budget, making it possible for our kids to take it in the butt for the next couple generations. I say he should admit what he is, a proud Democrat.

Specter is a lost vote for the republican party, which will be missed. His actions are those of a man with no constitution, desperate self preservation, and little integrity which are poor qualities of a US Senator. I would not support him in either party. Pennsylvania do the right thing.
Thank you,

No loss - you have to be joking... he was a pretty loyal GOPer for nearly 30 years and now the conservatives in the GOP (the ones who really are rigid and rabid on most narrow issues) want to dump on him... sure it's for political gain... he does not want to leave office or lost power ...

He's like most GOPers and DEMS alike in power today ... greedy and self-preservationists!!!

So, what's new about that attitude?

My last word on this ... the GOP: big tent party?

Maybe, maybe not; but one thing is clear: that tent has only one door that reads?

Enter at your own risk: If you are moderate or anything but conservative willing to lockstep and follow orders caution is advised ..."

He's 79 f-ing years old!!! He should have retired 10 years ago!! How big of a loss is he? He's never been a conservative and he tends to change his stripes to blend in with the grass around him. I've never been in favor of term limits but I am fast changing my thinking because these old fools in Congress are out of touch with reality. Their primo, number one, laser focus goal is getting re-elected!! They don't give a damn about good government, they want the power and the control - see Ted "Pass the Defibrillator" Kennedy.

It is not a matter of self-perservation, it is one of principle. That is what Sen. Specter said in the interview yesterday. Why wouldn't you take him at his word?

yeah, you Republicans don't need any body.

It all boils down to one thing. Power by the two party system. If you think there is a difference between the two parties, you definately belong to one of them.
If you think the republicans must be the democrat party of the 50's and 60's you must believe that the government is here to help you. The only thing that will happen, under that scenario, is we will delay our march toward socialism. If you do not want to stand for principals join the democrats or the republicans so we can keep the same old baggage in office. I never believed in term limits until now, but this has to done before our country is done.

Dan, Spector was a loyal Republican until the last decade or so rolled up. Any fool who could vote for this past Great One budget needs to be voted out. I hope PA can do it. But there are lots of folks making money off other people, and they know how to vote. PA, like NY, isn't what it used to be.
