Stepping down or not running for reelection

Not seeking reelection

Bob doesn't come to Rutland meetings, but Watertown meets the same night, I think, so he may be forgiven.

He is a glad handler, IMO, not particularly effectual, but I'm sure he's done SOMETHING in 10 years - opposing Burto for the Chairmanship was a good one.

I'd like to see someone run who'll at least start a dialogue about consolidating the 2 towns. Someone who will also bring some development to Rutland for a change - water on the northwest side along the ridge, for example, or, dare I say it, windmills.

Lets make sure we find a conservative republican to run for this position. Anyone in mind?

I would say the only people really qualified are supervisors. The only republican supervisor is in Rutland. Supervisor Gary Eddy should probably be the candidate

10:49 a.m.: Are you kidding?

1st of all, Gary Eddy works for the County (Soil & Water). He cannot be his own boss. He cannot run for the legislature.

Besides that, he has been a train wreck as Rutland Supervisor. He clearly cannot understand finance. He wanted to apply the Town's entire fund balance (100%) to offset the tax levy, leaving the Town with zero savings. And he doesn't even read his own Supervisor's Report at the meetings! Jim Yuhas reads it for him!!

I also think he's lazy. He applies about as much time and effort to the job of Supervisor as he does to staying in shape. LOL! What the heck does a County Forester do anyway???

It amazes me how quickly some people will throw slanderous comments to defame someones character and physical attributes.

Bob has served us well. Thanks

12:22 p.m.: Soil & Water is either County or Federal (USDA). If it is Federal, he (Eddy) cannot even legally be Supervisor (Hatch Act)

2:01 p.m.: Slander is spoken; LIBEL is written.

I don't think the comments were all that far off the mark, He was the "Clerk of the Works" for the water project in Rutland, Spent most of his time in Watertown, Blamed citizens for Water meter problems, (they were put in backwards) and isn't he on disability.

5:21 p.m.: You're thinking of Gary's father, but you are DEAD ON! and the apple don't fall far from the tree.

Soil and Water isn't a federal job or have federal funds. Gary isn't the problem in Rutland. It is Mike G.

What does a "County forester" do anyway?? The Soil and Water is packed "full" of the good old boys relatives who don't do enough to earn a paycheck. It's Jefferson Countys version of DANC.

Hi I am Mike Gillette here is your grant money back we can spend our local tax dollars instead of your grant money. Also please don't plow the roads until there is 3-5 inches and 2 accidents.

First of all, I would like to ask how many of you with the insulting comments concerning Supervisor Gary Eddie has attended the Town Board Meetings in Rutland ? How many of you know what day each month the meetings are held? That being said, how do any of you know what is going on at all in the Town of Rutland ? As far as the personal insults, have any of you looked around? Maybe the insults give you something mean to say because you dont know what else to say! Thats probably because you have no idea what Mr. Eddie has done or hasnt done! I sure hope you people dont vote or we are all in serious trouble! Voting is for thinking mature adults, not mean, mean nasty childre!!

Grant money IS your tax dollars. Do you think it just falls down on Albany as manna from heaven???

What is wrong with you people? Where is the proof your comments are true or are your comments opinion?

I know that grant money is our tax dolars but until they stop giving it out why would you not try to get it for your residents.

8:55 a.m.: I believe what is at issue is what the grant money is for.

Quality of life issues, such as clean drinking water or proper sanitation are one thing;

A raised platform so 1 Town Justice and 1 or 2 Town Board members can feel important is something else entirely.

Grant money is grant money-shouldn't matter what the use is for. All grant monies are for a specifc purpose. Someone is going t use the money once it is set aside, why not take the benefit?

Anonymous said...

grant money is grant money-all grants monies disbursed are for specific things, depending upon the entity of the funds. why shouldn't it get used by us-someone is going to get it!

It's spurious logic like that that makes New York State, per Forbes magazine 4/05/2009, at $3,019 per person the 6th highest state in the nation for total tax burden.

But hey, maybe we can get a grant for skylights in the town office or a sauna in the breakroom.

Here is the truth, and I am not an elected official in the Town Of Rutland. First of all, grant money, tarp money, or bail-out money in general comes from the same piggy bank. The taxpayer, which is you and me. Everyone in the country is sick and tired of our government throwing away our money. Now lets bring that down to a local level. Why should all little towns, villages, and cities keep getting money to use on things that should get consolidated
with other municipalities. Kind of like the U.S. Congress is a disgrace but, my Congressman is great. Come on, if we are going to make a difference with the direction of our country, we have to start here on a local level. That means tough decisions have to made even if might hurt someone's feelings or a loss of a job for those friends and families the politician got for them. After all, that is why 95% of you are in office. To get your friends and family a job so they do have to work for a living. And you all know who you are. Step up, look at this as a business that is going bankrupt and we the taxpayers have to save it. Not those elected officials. I say throw them all out. Get some people that do not need political money and just want to do what is good for all the people. Not a select few!!!!

Consolidation is the key. What, where, with whom are all questions that need answers before any consolidation is done. The problem is,these types of studies are costly. Grant funds are about the only why that they can be accomplished without putting several thousands of dollars of tax burden on the tax payer.

Getting rid of a local town government is only the beginning. True consolidation would mean eliminating all town governments, keeping only the county and city, village governments intact. This would include the blending of all school districts, ems services, highway dept, dpw's etc into a county run services.
This is when we will start seeing cost savings to the taxpayer.
Anything short of this would mean sure demise for people of the towns involved.

So lets get the grants and complete the studies. Lets see what is needed and what can be blended effectively and efficiently without politcal views and personalities obscuring the true vision and intensions.

Combining towns is not the answer.

As far as the person that said he/she was Mike G. I did not know he was the highway superintendent.
The highway superintendent decides when to plow the roads. If you think running 3 shifts is the answer you are as crazy as the rest of them. No other town, village, or even the state keep people around the clock. That is called management and this town has none. One more thing, how many accidents have we had on Rt 126 this winter? Check it out

Unfortunately, that Soil and Water dept is exactly what people are calling it, a catchall for patronage jobs. Ah well, that's the Empire State. We like it that way.

As far as Bob Boice is concerned. I don't know the man. But if ya didn't like him ya shoulda run against him. Now is not the time to throw stones. Now is the time to thank him for his service.
