Aubertine vs. Ethics AGAIN

Darrel Aubertine's ethical judgment has been a centerpiece of the 48th district Senate race. Again, Aubertine comes toe to toe with ethics and again he comes up on the short side.

A letter to the Town Board of Cape Vincent written personally by Aubertine states;
"While some may feel that these elected officials should abstain from voting on this matter, my belief is that they should not ... I feel it is ethically proper that in this case all board members should vote on the issue at hand." This is the direct opposite of an opinion by the Jefferson County Board of Ethics.

Even after the Board of Ethics opinion, and in this campaign as recently as last week, Aubertine has consistently said voting on an issue that will provide personal financial benefit to an elected official and voting on a budget that taxes everyone fairly is the same thing. Clearly, he is misguided, one is a conflict while the other is not.

It is the MO of the wind power companies to deal with landowners and get signed contracts prior to working with local governments to establish proper approvals and zoning. It is their intention that the lure of money is enough to blur the lines and set aside your responsibilities as an elected official. The public can decide if that is the right or wrong approach.

Important to note, Renzi has supported alternative energy sources, such as wind, with a proper process in place.

Here is the letter.

From Oswego all the way up the Lake Shore and the St. Lawrence River Valley, Gallo Island and Wolfe Island, wind developers are looking. Their contracts with landowners are negotiated the same way and with confidentiality clauses. They approach the local boards the same way. If Dave Renzi wants to screw around with anyone's opportunity to benefit from wind, tell him to sue the wind companies. Opposition against one wind agreement is opposition against all.
You can't tell us that he is in favor of alternate energy and then have him messing with our chances of a contract. This indicates that you are against wind and that Renzi is against wind. Send Renzi to the next area public wind meeting and have him lodge his complaint. Better yet, you come out of your blog closet and come to the next public meeting on wind and lodge your complaint. Dave Renzi is making noises against wind contracts because the WDT and the family that owns it is against wind development. They defend Renzi's retirement scam and in return he upsets the wind development possibilities. I can't believe that David Renzi wants you to talk on his behalf on the issue. He has enough trouble with his campaign as it is.

Holy cow this Chris McKenna guy is so over the top he is gonna cost Renzi the election because of ridiculous amounts of nastiness. These issues have zero traction with voters. The rest us know that, why don't Chris and Dave get it?

unless you are financially benefiting from industrial wind turbines one should be opposed to them in this area. There are 3 places in this entire state where they should not be. 1. Adirondack park 2.St.Lawrence seaway 3.Niagara Falls
That gives the wind people plenty of space for development. We should not have them ruining the only resource we have in northern new york, Our Lake and River views. I understand people in Cape Vincent who have failing farms that want it. But they are trying to railroad it through. Criminals like Darrel Aubertine who use a public vote for personal gain should resign. I personally feel that wind holds some promise but not here. i am fine with the Nimby characterization because it is absolutely true. These turbines are gigantic, loud, and a terrible eyesore. Real estate values will be affected which offsets tax incentives. Some people in the cape think their electricity will be free! How could you be so stupid? The 40 families who own development land will be richly compensated, everyone else will be left looking at these huge eyesores forever. It is a terrible loss for the beauty of our land and those who enjoy it. The previous poster makes a nice little argument but it is like cigarettes. if you are smoking one it is great, if you happen to be standing next to the smoker all you get is the stink. No Industrial wind turbines on the seaway. We cannot have this. Aubertine is a corrupt politician, simple as that.

David Renzi would love to ruin the chances for wind power here and Political Iv would also like that as a way to get even with Darrel.

Wow. That letter seeking to influence a public board could be illegal, couldn't it? Did Darrel break the law AGAIN?

Anonymous said...

When an elected offical is negotiating the amount of money he will personally be paid from the revenues of a project, vs negotiating the amount of money his constituents will be given, he is breaking the law. Aubertine will end up being charged with a crime like the rest of them the moment a tower goes up on his land.

I can hear the negotiations now: "oh don't worry about how much property tax you have to pay for your turbines. Just pay me all the money in the contigency fund (the amount set aside for each towers lease and taxes). Let the ignorant homeowners living in the shadows of the whirling monstrosities pay the taxes."

Canada just voted out the entire Liberal party that was behind this same joke of a tax scam hidden in the arms of fake tree huggers.

But like all things, the US is usually slow on the uptake. So it will prob take a couple of years, and few arrests to bring this joke to an end.

How ethical would it be for a member of the JeffCo county board who has insider information about such matters to be able to feed it to the David Ranzi Campaign as well as the public using an anonymous blog?

Shame on you and shame on David Renzi for not crossing out Mr. Aubertine's home address on the letter. It appears that it was written as a homeowner's opinion about local business to a local board and not from the Senator's office. You have no respect for his family. Of course we knew that already.

Would you like it if your home address and Mr. Renzi's home address were published for all to see especially when your intent is to excite the goons?

This seems to be as much of an opening for personal harassment at his home as it does for your political advantage and satisfaction.

As always, it is entertaining to watch you post items anonymously (with inside info and arguments directly from the Renzi campaign) and then see you post COMMENTS anonymously, as though it is someone other than yourself. So adorable and entertaining, really. It reminds me of my 4-year-old.

The opinion that the two of the Republican members of the Cape Vincent Town Board board be allowed to vote on wind issues regarding everything from setbacks to environment concerns was rendered by the Town Board's lawyers.
It is clear that there is more to this issue than meets the eye since final plans put only one windmill on Mr. Aubertine's land.
This sound to me to be a chance for Dave Renzi to pay back the Watertown Times for there support of a crooked lawyer.
It is no secret that owners of the Times have an interest in stopping them.

YES, DAVID RENZI IS AGAINST WIND DEVELOPEMENT AND THIS BLOG SEES THIS AS A CHANCE TO GET EVEN WITH DARREL.

The letter was submitted to a public board and he is in the phone book under "O" for One of us.

Get over it.

Dave is for wind power. That isn't an issue here. The issue is an elected offical pressuring a local offical to make cast a vote that he has personal intrest in. If you have the ability to place windmills on yur land and make money the good for you. I am behind you 100%. But to ask someone to cast votes that make it easier for you to make money is illegal for an elected offical. If he was "one of us" I won't want to be US.

Good God yank. Don't go blowing your pipes about Canadian politics when it is clear you don't understand them. You call a liberal a tree hugger over here and he is apt to pull the knife from the sock.
Liberal and Conservative on our side of the Lake mean nothing like you blokes call the same over there. Study up a bit before you shoot your mouth off at the pub, eh?

"Dave is for wind power"

No !!! DAVE IS NOT FOR WIND POWER. FOR HIM TO QUESTION THE VALIDITY OF DARREL'S CONTRACT IS TO QUESTION THE VALIDITY OF THEM ALL.

THIS IS A DIRECT MOVE BY DAVE, PIV AND THE WDT TO THROW A WRENCH INTO THE LANDOWNER NEGOTIATIONS. DAVE WANTS TO VIOLATE THE PRIVACY OF ALL CONTRACTS. THAT IS THE ONLY WAY. DAVE WILL CAUSE THE WIND CO TO LOOSE INTEREST IN THIS DISTRICT. THANKS, DAVE

So let me get this straight, elected officials are not allowed to send letters of concern to their town board as members of the community? What a bunch of crap, he has the same rights as anyone else to write to their elected officials. It is not on NYS letterhead, there is absolutely nothing unethical about what he did.

To me this is the biggest error of Aubertine. I really didn't care if he hired his sister. In reality not a big deal.

Openly urging town concil people to sluff off any perception of integrity for a buck is unconsciencable at best.

From what I hear Aubertine had to lie to become chairman of the co Board of Supervisors, lied about being a leadership figure during the ice storm, lied about paying the money back for his sister, urged officals to ignore ethical standards. Claimed to save some hospital in Oswego County that was not true.

HOW LONG SHOULD WE ACCEPT THIS?

I say only until December 31, 2008

Who has access to such inside information and would publicly leak it for political gain? Surely there are ethics laws against such actions that have been violated in doing so.

anonymous #8 "Shame on you for printing his (Darrell's) address"???? Come on, he's a public official....if Darrell and Court can plaster pictures of Will Barclay's fathers front entry all over TV why can't IV post an address that is publicly available....
The letter appears to be and attempt to influence the board....HMM is that appropriate? Could Darrell have been violating another ethical standard?
My god, if Will Barclay wrote such a letter to the Pulaski town board imagine what the Ruddy's would be screaming!

You didn't hear it, it came from you. You were around in those days and resented his leadership role. A hayseed coming into town and taking action.

Darrel's home address is listed on every document he files with the State Board of Elections.

Plus, everyone already knows where he lives. He's one of us!

If you have trouble finding it, look for the house with the tremendous wind tower.

So David Renzi is opposed to wind. So are we. We hate ATV's too. Screw you hicks. Go clean your gutters. Go Dave.

Windmills are disgusting. I hope the counties around the lake and river come to an agreement to put them aside. I know the Jefferson county leaders are in opposition and PIV has the courage to take them on. David Renzi has the courage to take them on. I hope it is not too late, but thanks Dave and PIV for taking these anti-environment and local beauty destroyers to task. An investigation into Darrel's corrupt contracts and his neighbor's corrupt contracts and the corrupt Cape Vincent Town Board is what is needed to put a stop to these ugly beasts. David Renzi and PIV are to be complimented for leading the way against industrial wind complexes.

STOP THE WIND VOTE RENZI

• The windmill (a.k.a. "bird guillotine") would kill many birds.
• The windmill would be a constant noise upsetting the peace of the neighborhood.
• The windmill would lower property values.
• The windmill would ruin the character of the neighborhood.
• Trespassing children would attempt to climb the windmill's tower and kill themselves.
• The local power utility already provided electricity.  Therefore, we should not be allowed to have a windmill because it was unnecessary.

Oh my God! Verizon lists Darrel's home address and phone number in the phone book that they sent to thousands of homes!

And the Internet even shows a map of his house, his wife's name and even his age!

And everyone knos that Verizon and the Internet are both tools of the GOP!

Scoundrels!

Anon 8:04, you are right PIV is so courageous. He has so much courage he will post blatant lies on his blog, with no fear of consequences. I as well would like to commend PIV!

Anon 8:04, you are also right about these hideous beasts(wind towers). They will be the downfall of the universe, who cares that they provide 100% clean renewable energy, lower town and school taxes and will provide more good paying jobs and another industry to our region. They are ugly (at least to some people). We need to get rid of these aweful beasts before we all get brain tumors, or worse, get hit by flying blades.

Piv and the Jefferson county board with David Renzi will finally bring a halt to this corrup issue. You will see

There is nothing behind the scenes to say that wind power is a certainty in our counties. Wolfe Island, yes, and that is Cape Vincent's eyesore problem. But we in Watertown do not have to go to the river shore. Mr Renzi with the help of the county board is working on the problem and finally bringing to light the corrupt developers and landowners who have worked their under the table deals. David Renzi and grass roots movers such a PIV will finally bring this to an end.
