Nice Piece, But Be Careful Bobby

Cantwell campaign comes out with a mailer, maybe the first of the season for Bobby. The mailer features a nice photo of the family enjoying a little fishing activity.

A word of caution though for Bobby, when the mailer reads;
"Vote against every tax hike the Albany politicians try to pass onto us"
First, you desire to become one of those "Albany politicians" and second, the word "every" is very definitive.

Like any business, government has an annual increase in the cost of doing business and you either need revenue increases to match these needs or be prepared to say you are willing to cut programs, services or people.

All in all, this is a good mail piece that lays out his platform nicely.

Raised in a union household yet he does not support a minimum wage increase.

Family members are teachers yet he supports the tax cap.

hmmmmmm...I guess he didnt get his values from his family.

Is Dave Renzi the only candidate that was not "raised" on a farm.
Can someone define raised? Does it mean the same thing as over night visits or long weekends?

To bad the top of his daughters head got cut off.

Maybe he gets his values from his fellow citizens, and not the teacher's union. And if so, to his credit. We have come to a point where additional tax increases are not going to work. They are not going to produce more revenue. They will only cause more hardship on our citizens. We have to limit spending, in ALL areas. Mindless, knee-jerk increases in spending is no longer an option. Look where it has brought us.

Who is proposing mindless spending? Cantwell with his not-paid-for jobs plan? Or his not-paid-for healthcare plan?

There is no money right now, and more cuts are coming, if you saw the leaders meeting, so you should be happy.

Whoever gets elected will have to cut, so that shouldnt be an issue in any of these state-wide race.

What do unions and minimum wage have in common? When was the last time you saw a union member making minimum wage? And, the tax cap should have nothing to do with teachers. People can no longer be over-charged by their gov't. The bleeding has to stop!!!

HAHA...why are you even reading these blogs and posting if you dont know that unions support a minimum wage increase and how a tax cap would affect teachers. Go study up on general government before you post.

Tax caps limit spending. Tax caps threaten only one thing, spending. Tax caps are hated by one thing, special interests. Teachers are special interests.

It also get cold in the winter and water flows downhill. Duh. Anyone who doesn't see the need for tax caps is, maybe not mindless, let's call it thinking impaired.

Or, we could do what you folks have always advocated, continue to spend what we do not have.

As far as being happy about "it". It is not a question of being pleased, it is just where we have brought ourselves. Not George Bush, not George Pataki, not Gov Cuomo, not Spitzer, not any person or particular party. We did it to ourselves by failing to tell our politicians to say no. I'll just bet that if left to people like you, we still wouldn't say no. That's why you ridicule tax caps. You just can't bring yourself to bring your addiction under control. Either that, or your are owned by special interests. As a person who reads and participates in a blog like this, you know what spending has done to our kids. You know they have no future here in NY. But you don't care. Hopefully, things will change in the future. One way or another, they will. Our current Gov is a good example. He was, and still may be, a liberal Democrat. But he has seen the light, and he is trying to move things in the right direction.

Be Careful is right. You might vote for a budget that has a lot of good things in it for your area and have a Republican governor, Republican Senate Majority Leader and Democratic Assembly speaker put in new fees and a tax or two (as that governor claims he is cutting taxes) that raise billions.

What happens next is your opponent with no experience then runs an ad claiming that you and you alone are responsible for fee increases even though you have not supported any tax or fee increases, only voted to pass budgets that provided many important things for your district and the state as a whole.

Be Careful.

Nice photo, indeed. But unless he intends to have a lot of free time fishing with his family, may I suggest some actual work be proposed, not photo ops and typical sounds bytes...

On second thought, what the hell, they sell, right?

~ Scurry on... [cynical, yes, a bit, I wonder why?] ...

pssst, hey bud, don't tell anyone, but it's the same old, same old crap, just different shoveler!!!

I assure you, he was and still lives at his birth place, a real farm.

The overnight visits and long weekends that you refer to, take Darrel AWAY from his family, his farm, and his Republican friends as they are spent in Albany serving as Senator.

I am not 100% sure of this, but I betcha a couple of those republican neighbors, those 4H moms, and a few of those ATV riden' gun toten farm boys may have even takin time out from their kids to help Darrel's family a bit with some chores on those days that called our Senator to Albany.

I will find out fer sure and get back to ya on that one.

Being brought up on, living on, or even visiting a farm and getting caught up in honest, rewarding, hard work is hard to explain to anyone deprived of the experience.

Addie's "long weekends" on the farm exposed her to those same hard working values. That is her good fortune, since she carries those same values into her family, her profession, and her politics.
