Show Me The Money

The Senate Democrats do not have the cash to invest in this race like they did in the special election and it shows.

Aubertine filings show the Senator is not flush with cash, he has not received much and is not spending much.

The 32 pre general election filing shows Darrel Aubertine with $45,084.05 on hand while he collected and spent in the neighborhood of approximately $126,000.00

Here is his summary

Renzi filings show the challenger with total spending of $716,289.97 and total receipts of $684,663.71 with cash on hand of $24,249.07

Here is his summary

This bodes well for the Renzi campaign and the hopes that the Senate will remain under Republican control to provide a much needed check and balance in the system of governing New York State.

And how does this bode well? Renzi has out spent him 8 to 1, has less on hand, and is facing a 20 point deficit. Spin, IV, spin.

Your summary is lacking one key point, that is despite all of the money Mr. Renzi has spent he's still seemingly behind Aubertine in popularity. It is possible that the Democratoc committee feels that they have this race in the bag so they are only investing the bare minimum amount of money necessary in order to keep this seat. It's like John McCain leaving Michigan.
The positive and unfortunate negative reality of these figures is that a candidate can run an effective race on a small budget; unfortunately that means Mr. Renzi is spending a lot more and is seemingly spinning his tires as he tries to chip away at Mr. Aubertine's kevlar appearance. It may be time to try a new strategy.

Rats never smell their own hole first. I do not want to send a corrupt lawyer to Albany just because some idiot who has no name wants to 'bode well". Hell, as far as I know, you are Dave Renzi and not the JeffCo board as some here believe.

Listening to Mountain Drew and Sandy Isle Cort's overheated screeds, it's hard to believe that Darrel thinks he's 20 points ahead.

Hey IV why do u think that Darrel doesnt have the major money this year?
I will give you a hint, it is because he is up 20 points. On the other hand your boy is bought and paid for by the Long Island native Dean Skelos.

Hey IV - what is in your IV anyway? Darrel is up 20 points - according to reputable polling by outside organization with no dog in this fight.

Voters in this district are not for sale. They said no thanks to Will and now will send Renzi packing.

I think the most telling item in the disclosures is that Renzi has raised more money locally than Aubertine. Where are all his individual supporters?

interesting.

Renzi was fully funded by Joe Bruno. Did you not see that article a few weeks ago?

I see that is missing from your post.

Darrel is way ahead and is going to win this race because muckrakers like you and Renzi (who may very well be one in the same) turn off voters like me and embarass our party.

His supporters are out talking to their friends supporting him the "old fashioned way". Five months ago they were talking about the "sister debacle" which was well publicized. Darrel took his lumps then. Five months in political times is like an eternity for progressive people who like to move forward.

However, Republicans are still talking about Bubba's playhouse and Darrel's sister while one of their own is out there "robbing the bank" while he is running a campaign trying to tell us how honest he is.

So now, Darrel's Republican and Democratic supporters are out there talking about Dave Renzi's sticky fingers. That is NEW NEWS and brings on fears of Dave dragging an investigation and scandal into the Senate.

There are a lot of good lawyers in the Senate and they don't want another Spitzer and we can't afford to embarass them and our district.

Downstate money is great, but it is spent downstate, by downstate politicians who blow a lot of it on downstate ad firms.

This is still a local election, don't get your hopes up too much about downstate money.

IT IS ALWAYS HARD TO UNSEAT AN INCUMBANT and Darrel is the incumbent with a strong base. The special election was not short of money for either candidate. The results on this special election created a martyr in Darrel (negative ads and bashing by RAC) which entrenched him in the predominately republican 48th Senate district.

The only way to unseat Darrel is exposure, debate, TV, and much hard work, all accomplished with money. It is an uphill race for Dave, because of the mind set of the voters, Darrel is a likeable guy, and hey I like him. The problem is many people vote on a gut feeling and not the issues.

I wish everyone in the county would be required to attend one debate between Darrel and Dave. They would see that likeable guy, still likeable, but does not represent them and has not fought for them in times when jobs are disappearing, taxes continue to rise, schools get less money, unfunded mandates continue to pass from state to local taxes, and our way of life and standard of living changes for the downstate Democratic train.

One debate and Dave would not have to spend half the money he is spending.

Unfortunatly, just like the Presidnential race, we are forced to vote for the "best worse" in this race. It sure would be nice to have a campaign where the candidates campaign on their own merits, not the lack of by their opponents.

Hey Riverblogger, didnt you attack the only candidate in the North Country who is trying to run a positive campaign on the issues? Consistancy is key bud.
